@Weswife: If your doctor told you either one was okay, then I'd say starting on Day 3 is perfectly fine.

I had 3 IUI's. Two of them resulted in twin pregnancies.
- I took Clomid on days 3-7.
- My ultrasound was then scheduled for day 13 or 14.
- If I had eggs that looked mature enough, they would give me the shot right then and there (the syringe and meds were delivered to my house, but I brought them with me to the appointment.)
- For all three of my IUI's, I had mature eggs on Day 14 and was able to be given the shot.
- I asked about OPK's, but they told me it wasn't necessary.

Best of luck!

ETA: I did not have many issues with the "ovulation" shot. The area was a little itchy for awhile, but that's it. They just pinched an area on my belly and stuck the needle there. It was no big thing. I had way more symptoms (emotional) from the Clomid!

@Weswife: my doc told me 5-9 both times, and I took it a day ahead my second time because it just seemed like it was ok. Up to you.

I took Clomid on days 5-9, but didn't ovulate until CD 31. So don't count yourself out if it takes you awhile to ovulate! That was the cycle I got pregnant with DD too!

@LAZB: ok so I just opened the prescription and it says 5-9. Should I stick with that or do 3-7 like most purple are saying?

I took it 5-9 and 4-8, and took opks to detect my surge, but didn't get an ultrasound. Both cycles were successful. I think I Oed on day 18 the first time and 17 the other time.

I've done all 3! 2-6, 3-7 and 5-9. My preference is 2-6, because I don't ovulate at all (and if I left it til 5-9 *if* it worked, it took until the mid-late 20's (CD) and it felt like a pretty late ovulation.

If Clomid doesn't agree with you, ask your doc about Letrozole/Femara! I rate it a LOT better than Clomid. :)

@mrsjd: oh congrats! I hope I am on the baby train soon! Thanks for all the info. I also have been taking progesterone vaginally for two months. I don't know if it will continue this month. I don't have to do the shot it's my choice... So I still haven't quite decided. With the shot their is a greater chance of multiples I believe which kinda freaks me out.

I took Clomid 50mg for two cycles. Each time from Day 3-7. Like you, I got to choose. I did not have ultrasounds or a shot. I was still with my OBgyn. I have atypical PCOS and DH has no issues (in fact, he has very favorable SA numbers)

Regarding OPKs, I used the brand ClearBlue Digital OPK (the kind that only does the solid smiley not the blinking one). I highly recommend them. They show a blank circle if you haven't hit your surge and a smiley if you are surging. For reference, you typically get the surge 24-48 hours before you will ovulate. So OPKs will help you catch ovulation if used properly. I got a positive smiley each time on day 13, meaning I likely ovulated on day 14. I began using them on day 10 or 11 (I don't recall but it was hard to even wait that long). I generally took them during the middle of the day with about a 2-3 hour hold because that's when I read they're most effective. (between 11-1pm). Starting on day 10 we had sex every other day and then when I got the positive we had sex every day until I got two days of a blank circle after the smiley. At that point, we just did our normal routine. I used the Ovia app to track this stuff.

I got pregnant with our little girl (27 weeks tomorrow) on cycle 2 of Clomid. I also took estradiol (helping with lining), metformin, and progesterone (vaginally). I got my positive test at cd 28, which happened to be New Year's Day.

I actually don't remember which days I took it on (I think 3-7?) but they didn't let me choose. And I was monitored via ultrasound every few days. They took a look and then said OK come back this day and then I would and they'd say take an OPK every day and come back this day, etc.

I took clomid days 2-6, my ob told me to do 1-5 though! When I did my research, days 3-7 seemed to be much more effective than days 5-9. There wasn't much info on days 1-5 or 2-6.

My ob doesn't trust opks but I do. I wouldn't wait for the opk though, I think that will give you egg info too late... besides, that's when you want to be BDing! I would expect and ultrasounds on days 11-12 maybe.

Hi!
I took 25mg of clomid for my IUI cycles with my RE
I took them cycle day 3-7
I was given a date for ultrasound cycle day 12 always
If I had mature eggs I would trigger shot that night or the next 24hrs!
I know many offices do have you use OPKs
If you would rather just go in I'd definitely ask!

I didn't get u/s but I took clomid for three cycles. I did it cycle days 5-9 and then used OPKs. I ovulated on CD 14 like clockwork.

Hi everyone. Ok so my doctor is out of town and I spoke to my friend who took Clomid but it was years and she can't remember so I have some questions. The M.A. told me to start either day 3 and go to day 7 or to start day 5 and go to day 9. She said either are effective. But which one is better? Then they said to do Opks and when I think I am going to have my LH surge to call I come in for an ultrasound to see my eggs. My friend said they just gave her a date and it wasn't like a guessing game for her. I don't know if it's a good idea for me to guess when my surge will be. This opk thing is already so confusing 😬. Those of you that have taken Clomid, did you have to do Opks? Or did they give you a date for the ultrasound? Also I most likely will be using the ovulation shot. Any experience with this? Advice? Questions I should be asking. On the first appt. a month ago I was a little overwhelmed so I feel I may have missed a lot of important information. Thanks for all the help in advance.
