@sweetooth: I should say that it was distinctly worth it. But I would have hesitated if I had responded to the 50mg. There is probably a good reason - I'd just want to really understand it myself.

@everbee: I know they respect my decision. There's no pressure from my doctor. I think I just need to really decide what I want. I totally want to achieve pregnancy, but I fear all of the side effects that I read about. Thanks for sharing some of what you experienced. I just wish my decision to put my body through this could come with some sort of guarantee of pregnancy. Keep dreaming, right?

@sarac: yeah, that most definitely does not sound fun. I've got some thinking to do.

@sweetooth: I was not measured that closely, so I can't tell you. I had different side effects each of my four cycles. One month is was depression, one month nausea. It was distinctly not fun.

yea i think it's just to increase the your chances of mature follicles. i started on 50mg and nothing exciting happened so they increased me to 100mg for the second IUI. i had mature follicles but no pregnancy there so they increased me to 150mg..and still no pregnancy. and i had crazy hot flashes. i was just sitting at home in underwear because i was so hot. after the third time i just have to stop and take a break (which is what i'm doing now). if you don't want to increase, just tell them. it's your decision. i think they are just trying to help you get pregnant, but if you want to take it slower, they should respect your decision.

@sarac: How many follicles did you have when you were on 100? And did you have any side effects? The only thing I really noticed with the 50 was some major bloating. But I think that's because of the 20 and 27 sized follicles measured on CD12.

@blackbird: She did ask if I was concerned about multiples when I questioned her reason for the increase. I kind of felt like she was just telling me to go to 100 because that's what the next normal step is. I'm just feeling conflicted because I don't want to deal with the side effects. However, I'd like to see more follicles too.

Interesting. I didn't respond to 50mg and did to 100mg, on which I ovulated consistently. I'd want a really clear understanding of the reasoning behind the increase, since the chance of multiples and the side effects are no joke.

I never increased on Clomid, but my doctor told me that if I hadn't responded to the 50, the 100 would make me produce more eggs. But her reasoning behind keeping me at 50 was that going to 100 could also make for multiples and I wasn't comfortable with that after just a month or two of ttc!

I recently found out that my first round of Clomid/IUI was unsuccessful. I responded well to 50mg of Clomid, but I only had 2 follicles and it turns out I may have ovulated before my IUI procedure.

This time around, I am going to go in earlier for monitoring. And if necessary, add injectables.

My doctor also recommended that I increase the Clomid from 50 to 100. I questioned this because I responded well to 50. I had one follicle at 20 and one at 27. I also didn't have terrible side effects, so I kind of want to stay put.

I have a call in to my RE to understand the increase more - but I thought I'd put the question out here. Did any of you increase Clomid from 50 to 100 if you responded well to 50? Is the reasoning behind the increase to see better follicle counts?
