I completely agree with @ShootingStar. You really should be monitored while taking clomid. It is recommended to only take clomid for a maximum of 6 months. You could also need a higher dosage, you won't know that unless you ate being monitored. Also, I have PCOS and didn't respond to oral meds at all.

So I would strongly recommend seeing an RE. Just giving you a Clomid rx with no support might work if you needed stronger ovulation. But for most people who just aren't ovulating, you probably have PCOS. You really need to see an RE who will monitor you and adjust the medication accordingly. You may also be resistant, to Clomid, which I am. You're basically trying to find your way around in the dark with no help. An RE will do regular ultrasounds and blood work instead of making you figure it out on your own.

@mrsjd: I'm testing twice a day... When I get up in the morning and when I get home from work, so between 6-7 am and 5-6 pm. I'm temping in addition to OPKs, so even if I miss the LH surge on the OPKs somehow, I should be able to see if I ovulate by temping.

@Kitkat: I'm on CD7 of my second Clomid cycle.

1. Last cycle I got a positive opk on CD13. I think I ovulated on either CD14 or 15. I have heard of it taking longer for some on Clomid - even into the 20s of your cycle. What time of day are you testing? I've always heard to use midday (between 11-2) with a couple hour hold.

2. I use clear blue digital opks because I don't like the uncertainty of the other opks. But my understanding is that the test line should gradually get darker closer to ovulation and once the LH hits a surge, the test line will become as dark or darker than the control line.

Just wanted to revive this thread since I'm in the middle of my first Clomid cycle. I'm currently on day 17 with no sign of ovulation. I took Clomid days 3-7 and my OB said to expect to ovulate 5-10 days after taking the last pill, so sometime between CD 12 and 17.

So, a couple questions for those of you who have taken Clomid:

1. What day did you ovulate? I've read stories of people not ovulating until after CD 20 when on Clomid. I'm trying to decide if I should wait it out a little longer, or just start the Provera and induce a period so we can try again next cycle. I'm just SO OVER my long cycles :crying:

2. I've been using OPKs twice a day. The test line barely shows up...does it slowly fade into a positive, or one day just turns positive all of a sudden? (I'm using wondfos)

@kitkat: I'm currently taking clomid, metformin, estradiol, and progesterone (generic provera) for the first time. I've taken progesterone on its own before without symptoms. My only significant symptom on clomid -- I'm on CD--has been crazy night sweats (waking up absolutely drenched) but otherwise it's going ok. I had a few cramps today but nothing too bizarre. Good luck to you! I'm an atypical PCOS diagnosis - lean, no hormonal issues or insulin resistance, 28-32 day cycles on average, but I have clear cysts on my ovaries.

@MaryM: I believe the Provera is to steer me toward 28 day cycles, so if I take it for 10 days starting on CD 28, I should get my period roughly 14 days after the first dose (or be pregnant :silly: )

@Mrs. Lion: It's not marketed to be used in pregnancy, but low progesterone is a common cause for miscarriages.

@Kitkat: keep in mind that OPKs don't confirm you've ovulated. They predict that you could be about to ovulate. Only accurate charting can confirm if it's actually happened. In women with long cycles it wouldn't be abnormal to have a positive OPK and not actually ovulate. (sorry if you were aware of that already. but I wanted to say it just in case you weren't)

@Mrs. Lion: at least the first 2 months she will not be checking (she only wrote one refill so I will need to go in after two cycles for additional testing if needed). I will be charting/using OPKs to see if I ovulate. She did say something about the Provera not being harmful if taken that early in a potential pregnancy

Provera can be taken during pregnancy, but doctors are split on the benefits. Personally, if I'm not on it, I miscarry.

But I don't see the purpose in taking it unless your doctor has tested you and you have low progesterone, and unless your cycles are monitored and you know when ovulation happens. you won't ovulate with high progesterone. So that would sort of negate the point of trying to induce ovulation unless you can confirm it happened.

I got pregnant on my third cycle of Clomid. We also used Provera to induce a period, but never during a cycle. I am curious about the usage at CD 14. I was under strict instructions to not ever take it if I was pregnant or thought I was pregnant...the pharmacist made me confirm that I was in fact not pregnant before they would give me my prescription. Will your doctor be checking to see if you ovulated, and then you take the Provera when you are certain you did not ovulate so that you can try again sooner?

Will your doctor monitor you at all (or do you chart) so that you'll know if you've actually ovulated or not by CD 14? I feel like if you've had long cycles, you might want to confirm O before starting the progesterone...

Combination of provera and clomid worked for me twice! I went off birth control and was NOT getting a period and was NOT ovulating on my own. I took provera to induce my period and then Clomid (100 mg worked for me) days 5-9 I believe. Took two cycles each time! Best of luck!

I will try to keep this short and sweet. My husband and I are TTC, but I have long cycles (45-55 days) and based on my charts, I suspected I was not ovulating. I went to my OB yesterday and she confirmed this suspicion. She prescribed Clomid and Provera, with the instructions I could take just Clomid, just Provera, or both. DH and I discussed our options and decided to go with both. Does anyone have experience taking both? Based on my internet research, it seems like most people take the Provera first to induce a period, and then take Clomid. My OB said to do the opposite: wait till I get my next period, which is hopefully soon, since I'm on CD42, then take Clomid on days 3-7, and Provera starting in CD 14. Does anyone have experience doing this? Was it successful? How many cycles did it take? Any side effects? Thanks in advance!
