Last month I noticed LO was about to put something small and shiny in her mouth, grabbed her hand and she'd managed to get hold of a darning needle! It must've fallen out of my sewing kit when I was packing things away. I felt awful just thinking about what could've happened. The irony was that I was messing around with my sewing kit in the first place to put away a whole lot of things I was worried she was going to get her hands on.

I will be very relieved when we're done with the "everything in the mouth" stage.

@SleepyMonkey: I learned the hard way once J could reach the counter by leaving a knife too close to the edge :-/ he had never been tall enough until then.

J fell down the stairs at Christmas! Could have been soooo much worse since they're wooden stairs with concrete at the bottom.

This is my deepest, darkest, mommy shame  ...

When DD was 14 months old we went upstairs and I thought I closed the gate but it must not have clicked. I was preoccupied with laundry or something while she toddled around. In a split second she pushed on the gate, it popped opened and she started to fall down the steps. Luckily our staircase is curved and she grasped for the railings which slowed her fall in time for me to grab her up after falling four or so steps. She had a huge bump on her head and I literally couldn't stop crying all night. But bottom line it could have been waaaaaay worse.

ok well i'm going to get cyber-looks for this, but i was unloading groceries on our counter and i pulled one of the bags off the counter and by accident knocked a huge knife off with it. i was going to pick it up after i finished putting things in the fridge and LO was with DH in her room. next thing i know, i turn to pick up the knife and LO had silently crawled over to it and picked it up in her hands. i yelped and took it away from her as quickly and as carefully as possible. DH came running and gave me the dirtiest look. sigh. bad mommy.

Two trips to the er since last August! And last week he was at the park on a play structure, slipped and hit his chin on the ground. I saw blood and thought he'd bitten his tongue off. Luckily it was only a shallow bite, and stopped bleeding quickly.

but seriously, it seems like we have close calls every day. I think he is just a clumsy kid and completely oblivious to his own safety!

List em off toddler moms!

Ds was running in circles, got dizzy and fell against the fish tank in our den jist as I was bout to pick him up. He narrowly missed diving hesd first into the corner...thank goodness he hit the flat front and only a swipe of his cheek.

We've had too many of these close call falls to count!
