@thismustbetheplace: @T.H.O.U.: the weird thing is that the fit looks good - no gaps at all. I mean, the Nicki's pockets run huge - but I always make sure there's no gaps. But it still wicks right through the lining along the leg elastics/crotch area. It's so bizarre.

The leaks could also be due to the fit of the elastics around the legs.

Maybe the legs of the Alvas don't fit quite right and that's allowing leakage before the MF/CBI can catch up? We have a tough time with leg leaks/wicking on our Alvas even with doubled inserts. I usually just keep them for around the house diapers- I don't trust them out and about or for night time.
I've heard good things about Thirsties Hemp http://www.diapers.com/p/thirsties-hemp-inserts-2-pk-97848 Maybe those would work?

ETA- just saw that you already have Thirsties!! oops :)

okay. I cannot figure out what inserts I need..

I have a ton of microfiber, bamboo/MF blend, and some charcoal/bamboo ones. as well as 2 thirsties hemp.

my daughter is 2 and tends to "flood" the diaper - holds it and goes all at once. some of my diapers hold up better than others regardless of the insert.

bum genius 4.0 with MF - no leaks.
alva pocket with mf, OR a cbi, almost instant leaks.

I thought CBI were supposed to be absorbent?

I don't want to have to double up every single diaper - is there such a thing as a hemp doubler to put underneath a mf, cbi or bamboo blend? I LOVE my alva bamboo/mf blends - super trim, even when I have to use two.
