I have freetimes and love them. For me it's worth it to not have to stuff them. I've recently started using flips because the inserts are easier to wash then the freetimes, daycare and DH like the AIO better. Watching cl is a great idea. I just got a great deal today on more flips for our stash. We have every color, LO has no idea and he's just gonna poop in them ;). Oh and we have 33 diapers and wash twice a week

@lauraeabel: basically for me the only reason to look at something other than a pocket or a AIO is if you're trying to save money. The shell part of the diaper is the expensive part so a hybrid type diaper means you replace the insert at each change but can resuse the shell portion

I have BG 4.0's, I love them! I used prefolds plus covers for #1 and they were a lot more work and difficult to manage with a squirmy toddler! I also used BG Elemental for a trial period and while I liked the idea of natural fibers, they took longer to dry, the BF poop got everywhere and the wetness of the cotton gave my LO a rash.

I have 18 of the 4.0's for 2 kids,, 12 for the baby (he wears a disposable overnight) and 6 for my toddler. I could probably use a couple more for the baby but now my toddler is potty training so I will have more than enough once he is done. I would definitely stay gender neutral for future babies unless you don't mind pink on a boy.

It sounds like you can find some good used deals in your area but you might also want to check out the cotton babies website, I purchased mine as seconds and they were much cheaper than new and I never noticed any difference.

I agree with @Tororojo! We use Bum Genius 4.0's and love them. I bought one Freestyle and didn't like the extra dry time, fit, and crevice factor. We have around 20 diapers and I usually run a load every 2 days. I bought mostly the cream and white color (for the possibility of having a boy for LO#2). I have a few other neutral colors and also a pink and purple one because I wanted a couple girly colors.

@lauraeabel: We us BG pockets (4.0) and AIOs (Freestyle) and I like both, but if I had to do it all over again I would just get 4.0s b/c they dry more quickly and don't have crevices for poop to get into. Which really doesn't matter once they have solid poop, but for babies who are just eating a little solid food, it can be a pain. We have 18 diapers in rotation and I wash every 3 days or so. I put a disposable on DD at night though so her butt stays dry- helps w/rashes. I pulled another 10 diapers out of rotation to save for our next kid b/c 18 is more than enough for us right now. I don't ever pay attention to color when I grab a diaper for her, but the girly colors are really fun! I don't think I would mind only having gender neutral colors though.

@Weagle: that's why I'm going through craigslist, at least to start. So far we have four fuzzibunz and four Bumgenius elementals, all not used because the parents decided to go disposable after buying. I've spent about 130 so far, so the hope is if one kind doesn't work or we like a certain type more than another, we won't be out too terribly much.

I've been sticking with aio or pocket style because they seem the most user friendly. Is there another style people would recommend looking into?

@spaniellove: I do laundry on Wednesdays and Saturdays. She's in disposables on Sundays for church nursery ease of use. She also is not a heavy wetter and only poops once a day or every other day. When she was younger I was washing every other day, but we were also using a mixture of Elementals, prefolds, and fitteds, so we had a lot more diapers in rotation then.

Also, I would probably not buy a ton of any particular brand. You have no idea how they will fit your LO. One of my friends went out and bought a complete set of brand new BGs for her two kids just because I said that's what worked best for us. Then got upset with me because they didn't work for her kids who are very different than my LO. I also started out with various microfiber lined diapers and had to switch because my LO doesn't tolerate anything but cotton well.

@T.H.O.U.: my cousin is giving me all her newborn and small size gdiapers since she's done with them, so that will hopefully get us through the newborn phase. We are only buying diapers that are one size, because they seem to be the best bang for your buck.

I have a lot...prob over 45 for both kids. My favorites are BG Elementals. LO 2 can't wear 4.0s (her skin gets irritated) and Freetimes fit weird on her. I also like Thirsties AIOs for LO 1.

@Chillybear: Love the pink!

Are you looking at Newborn sizes?

Most BG and FB are ones sizes (OS) and won't fit until the baby is a bit older. But they have a much longer use life because they can be used usually until the baby potty trains.

LO is 21 months old and we only use BG Elementals at this point (we've used a number of others over time based on what we needed then). I think we have around 20 diapers. It all depends on your child's bathroom habits and age. We have all colors, but I really like having several white ones to wear under lighter clothes. The next child will wear whatever I put on his/her butt - girly or not. It's just going to get pooped on.

I have 32 bg freetimes in my rotation. So far so good as long as i stay on top of the laundry every other to 3rd day because we have to send 6 to daycare each day and if i do diaper wash at night they're often not dry by morning. I had 2 of every color and i recently sold 2 lovelace and 2 alberts in order to buy the 2 new colors (the emerald green and hot pink) I decided solids only for us. I could see going up to 36 so i wouldnt feel so pressured to wash during the week.

Hey guys!
The hubs and I have decided on going the cloth route. Our area has a ton of people selling never or barely used Bumgenius/fuzzibunz diapers at a pretty significant discount, so I'm trying to scoop up what we will need before baby girl comes in July.

My question is, how many did you guys find was ideal? Did you find you used certain colors more often than others or one clothes are put over them does it not matter? Also, we want to stay pretty gender neutral for future babies but did you find you wanted a few girly diapers in the mix?

Sorry, I am pregnant and overthinking.
