Thanks everyone we dont have a balcony or porch so I use an ikea drying rack in the bathroom and just open the windows. Once a month we use bleach and its not too bad now. The sun really does do a great job of bleaching the stains out.

Sunning helps so much! I also use liners in some of LOs diapers if I think she is going to have a BM ( I started doing this when she was 6+ months & not EBF)

@Mrsbells: I read from some other cloth mommas that rinsing in warm really helps since it "warms" the poo to the same temp as it was when it got there breaking it up better. And I live in an apt too but am going to get a drying rack from target (like 15 bucks) so I can put the dipes out on the porch... Maybe that's an option?

Pre-wash in cold so that the stains don't set, then do a hot wash afterwards. Sunning guarantees the removal of stains though, no matter how gross they are when you put them on the line.

I drop all the cloth into a bucket of bleach water (capfull of bleach + bucket of water) in the bathroom after changing LO. They sit in the bucket until I do the cold rinse and then they go in the wash.

I haven;t sunned the few that are still stained, but will do it.

Do you do a cold rinse before the hot cycle? My BG 4.0s don't have a single stain!

BG also recommends a quarter cup of bleach once a month. That and sunning keeps my Elementals in pristine condition.

Sunlight breaks down the bilirubin which causes the stains. I just pop them outside for an hour and it takes care of virtually all stains.

I was surprised at how some of mine stained as well. They're obviously clean, but I think I'll start sunning them every 3rd wash or so.

Yeah hanging them near the window in the sunlight did help a bit but since I live in an apartment I cant hang them outside in the direct sunlight.
@chopsuey119: we washed them in the hot cycle.

If you dry them out in the sun -- in full sunlight -- the stains should bleach right out. I was skeptical at first, but it actually works!

Sunning them really helps - in direct sunlight.
My pocket diapers don't stain very badly, but my organic cotton ones stained with every poop. I found that sunlight works the best.

Tho adding a little baking soda and vinegar once in awhile helps too

Okay this week we began really using our cloth diapers and I was surprised how badly they stain. We use the Freetime all in one diapers by bum genius and we also have a sprayer, so we spray them before they go in the wash. At first I wasnt spraying them thoroughly, but when the diapers came out of the washer they had huge poop stains. so my husband washed them again and then I hung them to dry near the window hoping they woud get a bit of sun and the stains have faded a bit. I'm just surprised how badly the poop stains. Does this happen with all types of cloth diapers
