I did BG AIOs with LO, and it seemed like he outgrew them so fast! Not sure what we'll do for baby 2, so I'm following this thread :)

thanks everyone! oh gosh. so much to think about.

maybe Ill grab some covers, try with some flour sack towels and see how she does. I have a bum genius AIO newborn on its way to me, so I can try that too, and I'll get a couple other AIOs to try..nice thing is I can always resell for something, at least!

@ShootingStar: I think I saw your listing on the classifieds! I wasn't sure if they were still available or not. I'm trying to keep the newborn stash super cheap, though, since my first daughter was chunky by a month - I don't want to spend too much. I also have two boxes of pampers I can't return, so it'll definitely be part-time newborn cloth I think!

@sorrycharlie: I have a bunch of newborn CD stuff I keep meaning to sell. All in either new or practically new condition. I have mostly covers and fitteds, let me know if you're interested in the details.

We did NB prefolds + covers, as well as NB kissaluvs fitteds + covers. The covers were Thirsties.

I haaaaaaated prefolds. It actually kept me away from cloth for quite some time. They leave baby's skin wet and yucky. I totally recommend an AIO.

interesting! maybe I'll grab some thirsties covers.

I thought I would prefer aplix, but my two flip covers I can't seem to figure out the fit. She hasn't leaked from them, but she always has extra room around her belly and red lines on the insides of her thighs (even fitted more as underwear than a disposable diaper).

@sorrycharlie: We used prefold with Thirsties covers. I think we on;t had about 4 covers. You can reuse them (just let them hang to dry) if it was only a pee diaper. Oh and used snappies with them too.

When DS was big enough we switched to FuzziBunz and still going strong at almost 17 months!

I bought a ton of prefolds intending to use them, but my baby really hated them. When she was small, I really liked the gDiapers because of the trim fit. I love Thirsties covers too, and the new aplix is so much better.

So I had bought a bunch of NB cloth diapers of all kinds of varieties, but everything was so new and so just not normal that we decided to use up the disposables we got from the hospital first. By the time he was 3w old I was using BG 4.0 with newborn inserts and they worked just fine (he was a really skinny baby). We also used Fuzzibunz one size but they were a pain to adjust and he was growing so quickly that I didn't love them.

Of the NB diapers I had I liked the Fuzzibunz sized diaps, charlie bananas small, and the thirsties pockets size 1. But he was leaking out of the little Fuzzibunz by 6w because he was getting too big for them (but still in NB clothes.) I bought everything used and was able to sell them for what I paid. This time I've got a handful of Charlie Bananas left that I didn't sell and will use those and a package of Honest Diapers ;) LO hasn't been in diapers for a year so I'm not psyched to start diaper laundry until I'm really doing it full time. I was so excited to start last time, but I wasted so much money!

@sorrycharlie: I had either 3 or 4 dozen (a lot but I don't like doing laundry too often and this way I could air dry them). Then I want to say maybe 5 covers? I honestly don't remember, but it was just enough. Actually I think we had 4 in the small size and then I supplemented with the flip covers if they were all in the wash.

@Baby Boy Mom: this is kind of what my exact plan is. How many covers and prefolds did you have/need? I'm combo with disposables (we have a ton I can't return) til she's chunkier

I just folded the prefolds into a rectangle and stuck them in the cover. Either K was too big for the NB prefolds, or I was doing it wrong- we had issues with any folds that used snappies or any sort of wrapping around the baby.
She was only in the Thirsties for 5 weeks, so we never got out of the NB sized ones. Our regular diapers are the BG Freetimes and we switched right to them at 5 weeks.
Never too many questions! ;)

@MrsRoo: I was going to order some snappies, I've never used them! I just started CD my toddler a month ago. What did you use in place of them? or did you just fold the prefolds instead of wrapping around the baby? did you do the sized thirsties too?

lol sorry for so many questions!

I really wanted to use AIOs exclusively, but my MIL bought us 5 weeks of a diaper service so we ended up using prefolds and covers. I thought it would be too much, but it ended up being just fine. I tossed the snappies pretty quickly though- those things were a PITA. I really liked the Thirsties covers, and some of them are actually pretty cute!

@Arden: that's exactly what I'm afraid of - my DD wasn't huge at birth but got big quick. she was 9 lbs by a month! but, I don't love how the one-size really spread their legs apart when they're still little, either. kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, I think! I don't want to spend a fortune on all sized diapers..we're CD mainly for financial reasons.

I know prefolds and covers are more economical, but I wanted to make the newborn days as easy on myself and DH as possible so we went with AIO's.

I LOVED the Thirsies Duo AIO, size 1 which I hear they are discontinuing for a one-size (which makes me sad because the two size system made for a much better and slimmer fit).

We also used Lil'Joey's, which were amazing but she outgrew them fairly quickly (then again, I had a big baby).

I keep hearing prefolds and covers, which we'll probably do..I can always keep and reuse the prefolds for something! I want to get a couple all in ones just for cuteness factor ;)
