Oh the things I have to look forward to!

We're not even on solids yet and we use disposable/flushable inserts. I'm just too lazy to deal with poo.

FYI, the poop gets a little less gross, at least most of the time. When we first started solids, I was FLOORED by how much grosser and smellier the poop was, and how much more frequently he was producing it. But after about a month of solids, his poop started getting a lot firmer, like adult poop. It's still gross sometimes, but now he's back to only pooping like once a day and it's often solid enough that I can just shake it totally off into the toilet, no spraying needed. So hopefully that will happen for you soon!

1. Diaper sprayer to spray off the poop. We gave all of our diapers a good rinse before putting it in the pail.
2. Because we spray, we go straight into a hot wash with the regular amount of detergent I'd use for a full load (I used to wash every other day).
3. Sun bleaching if need be.

Stains weren't really a problem for us. We used Bum Genius & Fuzzi Bunz pockets, as well as prefolds and the Flips. I also didn't care too much if the diapers weren't super white, because, well, they were only going to get pooped & peed in again. I did care if they smelled clean out of the washer.

You also get used to the smell so it doesn't bother you as much after awhile.

Finally, my son was potty trained before age 2. I think cloth diapering helped. Having him poop in a potty is way better than wiping poop off his bum!

I'm using the BumGenius AIO Elemental diapers -- no separation of cover and insert here. I still wash my LO's diapers the same as before and spray down the dirty ones. The stains don't come out right away from the washer, but sun bleaching does the trick. I am always amazed to find the diaper good as new after a few hours in the sun.

Well, I accepted that the diapers are going to get stained, and since we use an insert system, I could technically reuse the covers and buy new inserts if they got too gross or we have another kid.

I also use a special soap to scrub out some of the orange food stains (carrot stains are especially tough). It's called Gall soap, but I am not sure if you can find that in the US. Another option is Fels Naptha.

We have been using cloth diapers since our LO was 2.5 months old. He started solids a few weeks ago, and I dread diaper changes so much now. The smell gets to me every single time, and I have to hold my breath. I have to get more up close and personal with his poo than ever before. Luckily he poos less frequently now, but I dread the times when he does. :(

How do you handle the dirty cloth diapers when your LO started eating solids? Did you have a more difficult time cleaning the stains?
