Hook &amp; loop (AKA velcro and aplix) are really nice for newborns when you need a tight fit and have little coordination and time. I ended up moving to side snaps to get a better fit when DS got older. </p> <p>There are some types of hook &amp; loop closures that are better than others. Then... pin the new stuff down (or even tape it down with masking tape.<br /> Sew an X--doesn't have to be perfect. You don't have to sew perfectly in a square around the edges!<br /> Then pull off the masking tape (or pins) and wash away the masking tape residue. Either way is fine for me, and I sew, so I don't mind replacing them if it comes down to it. 3 months in and the diapers still look practically new so I'm not worried. I prefer snaps for our AIOs and one-sizes. The velcro doesn't hold up very well. I just want to make things as easy possible for them since they are making an exception for us to use cloth! </p>
