@renee: I used a diaper service when K was a newborn and have nothing but good things to say about it. If it was more affordable, I'd love for someone to still pick up my dirty diapers each week ;)

@sarah.clarisse: @autumnlove: I need to get some liners! I use a sprayer and while it's easy, the liners sounds fabulous!

I wish I knew at first to plan on buying a size up in bottoms to account for added padding back there! Lots of cute outfits never got worn because I didn't think about that until it was too late!

I have almost no regrets, I love cloth diapering!

1. If something isn't working, don't assume it's normal. Find a new solution. I'm very happy with our final overnight solution (ZERO leaks) and I'm so glad we didn't just resort to disposables. We would have spent way more money.

2. You don't need that many. I see people with 40 or 60 diapers and I'm like "Wut?!" We have 18. She's been exclusively cloth diapered for 16 months. It would be be easier if we had a few more, but I can't imagine any reason I would need more than 25.

3. Hemp inserts FTW!

1) not to obsess. At least not before the kiddo arrives. I spent too much pregnancy time over researching everything and it was a waste. In the end I just went with the "standard" BG4.0 because most people like it and I figured I would too. Plus with $5 off coupons from bbb it was a reasonable price.

2) skip the newborn rental. Our LO grew out of them pretty much after two weeks. We didn't start right away because of the whole omg new baby I'm overwhelmed thing, and it was a total waste of money because he fit into the BGs before he was 8 weeks old! Advice: if you want to do newborn rental just have a plan on where to get them and order after the baby arrives if you still think it's worth it.

3) don't worry about stains. I noticed a lot of yellow staining from BM poops. And it bothered me because "what about resale" well here I am 9 months later and they're gone. Didn't do anything fancy it's just that once he started solids and we used liners they slowly faded away.

4) use liners! I had read that once you switch to solids the poop and cloth diapers is such a pain. I dreaded it. So maybe I'm crazy but it turns out solid food poop is easy peasy with liners. In fact it's way easier than BM poops which you couldn't just plop in the toilet!

5) don't obsess about overnight cloth and just use a disposable. We didn't have any medical reason for cloth (LO doesn't have bad reactions to sposies or anything) so instead of trying fifteen different recommended solutions for overnight leakage we just used target brand disposables from day one!

6) it's ok to cloth diaper part time. When we found a daycare we loved their one flaw was no cloth diapers. I was bummed but of course wasn't willing to let that be a reason to deny what seemed to be a perfect place for LO during the day. He goes 3 days a week and uses disposables there. Yeah - it eats into the cost savings but oh well. It is also awesome to not have mid week diaper laundry when there is already so much other stuff to do each day.

@swurlygurl: I think 36-40 is good because your LO 1 won't need as many diaper changes as baby sis. My LO 2 has sensitive skin and can only use 3 kinds of diapers right now.....BG Elementals , flats and Grovia covers with the cotton pads. I sold our BG 4.0s (I kept a few) and Freetimes after we potty trained LO 1. She also can't wear a cloth diaper overnight anymore because she gets bad rashes....I never had these issues with LO 1! :P

I'm pregnant now, and plan on using a cloth diaper service (we live in an apartment and don't have our own washer/dryer). Has anyone else used a diaper service? Thoughts?

We just buy the diaper covers and they deliver, pick up, and wash the actual diapers.

I HATE the cloth diaper bulk as well. it really really annoyed me in the beginning. I'm used to now though. Otherwise I like it. We are TTC #2 & if we get pregnant quickly I will have to buy more because we already have to wash every other day (i usually do it daily just in case there is some reason I absolutely cant, then we are covered.)

@autumnlove: What do you think your perfect amount in any given size would be? I find I only NEED 21 to keep my wash schedule and not rush it. But I ended up with 30. Sometimes I do go through them all because it takes me forever to do my wash cycle... haha

1. Tide! Tide is awesome.
2. I wish I would've tried a few less expensive brands - we have all BumGenius.

Other than that, I have zero regrets. I love CD'ing!

What lessons have you learned from cloth diapering that you wish you knew beforehand? (Hopefully other people can learn from us!)

For me:
1) That I wouldn't like it. I seriously wish I never started CDing. But, since I did, I'm going to stick with it. I've just never been one to think that CD bottoms are cuter, and find myself longing for the trim sposies. It's not *that* bad though, so if you're on the fence don't let this turn you off :)

2) That you NEED wet bags. It took me a couple months of trying to save money on another CD accessory, but wet bags are pretty important - at least to my set up! It really helped our smell problem.

3) I should have gone with name brand diapers instead of buying from homemade ones. Again, trying to save money, but I ended not saving *that* much, and her construction kind of sucks. Plus she used REALLY cheap snaps that are all failing and I have to get them all replaced.

I'm finally starting to come out ahead, money-wise, but it has NOT been easy! (including increase in utilities and detergent costs). I will at least start seeing drastic cost savings now that I'm CDing #2! Fingers crossed they last for #3 as well so I can really see my savings :)

I still haven't figured out overnight CDing though. I don't know that we've gone one leak-free night in the last like 5 months. Soooo many sheets and blankets to wash :crying: I'm about to just do sposies for night.
