@JoyfulKiwi: thanks! Thanks all!

I talked to 3 of the teachers today between pick up and drop off after I was able to realize which day the diaper got lost last week. There is another child in cloth, in BGs, so they sent a note home to those parents to please check. In order to make it easier for staff we bring in different colors for each child.

It is my opinion that part of the issue is low enrollment right now in the two toddler rooms so they are often combined. At pick up some things are in one room and some things in the other. I don't know exactly how much time they are in each but it seems to fuel the confusions. The teacher I talked to today said the spots are "claimed" by kids in the baby room who will move up so it should be less of an issue soon.

I appreciate the feedback all!

I think you should talk to the teachers in the room. Mention that a few have gone missing and they are quite expensive to replace. Ask them to please be careful with the diapers and ask if there's anything you can do to help make changing easier for them. You could also tell the director about the situation, but make it clear you're not upset & just want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm on my 2nd kid in cloth at daycare (the first child did two years in cloth, through 3 classrooms) and they *never* lost a diaper. Once I got another child's diaper in my pail, but that was the only mix-up. We also have 4.0s and I can't fathom how they'd throw one away!?

I would not ask for reimbursement. Just talk about their process.

I would talk to them about the process for changing and training. Make sure all staff know how to handle cloth. I would be nervous to ask for reimbursement and them change policy to just not accept cloth anymore.

I think I would just let them know and mention that it's going to cost you $36 to replace them. Unless the cost is a hardship for you, I would think it wasn't worth jeopardizing their acceptance of cloth. I would ask if there's any way to improve the setup or routine to ensure cloth ones aren't tossed accidentally. And then I would kindly state that if more still go missing, then you will need to be reimbursed.

@youboots: thanks! For LO#1 we lost one at some point after year two but I felt like that was okay. What would you ask for?

I think it's worth a brief chat with the director. T only goes 8 hours a week- but in a year none have been lost- as far as I know she's the only one CD.

Hi cloth diaper mamas,

I am on baby #2 in cloth at a center based daycare. We started with 24 diapers in rotation. One got lost in the baby room (I am assuming it got thrown out). I didn't notice right away and just chalked it up to the cost of rotating staff etc.

But now we have been in the toddler room for 2 months and 2 more have gotten lost, one this week. Has this happened to you? How did you handle it? What should I do?

At this point I am looking into supplementing my stash which I was really hoping to avoid. We only use BG 4.0s so we are talking about $13/diaper or so that I paid. Would you ask for reimbursement? How would you handle this?
