Ape cheeks is coming out with some that look great. We had more issues with poop so I never wanted a separate insert.

We didn't cloth diaper, but do use blueberry trainers in certain situations. Mostly during early potty training for naps and night. I know they aren't supposed to be nighttime trainers, but we were fine with regular undies during the day from the getgo and we just wanted a little absorbency during sleep so she would still recognize wet.

We only used them at daycare. We used Flip trainers and I hated them with poops.

We didn't use trainers and used underwear right away when we were ready to potty train.

We used flip trainers (love), grovia (eh) and blueberries (wonderful for little ones). I don't know that they were better or worse than disposable pull-ups but it was a nice transition for us. Especially if we go on trips and he still just needs a little protection.

if you cloth diaper (or if you don't!) did you consider or use cloth trainers? They're a similar style to pull-ups, I guess. Everyone says cloth diapers help you potty train faster but this hasn't been the case for my toddler, so I was curious if something like that would help. Or how absorbent/effective they are!
