We keep a trash can in LO's room even though we use mostly cloth wipes, and I keep a roll of toilet paper on the changing table. When she poops, I swipe her butt with TP to get anything off (like little bits of fruit that didn't get digested...eek!), then I stick it in the diaper and throw it in the toilet with her poop. I prefer to lift it out of the diaper with TP and drop it in the toilet anyway, that way it doesn't make a big splash. :) I clean her with a cloth wipe once there's no solid matter on her butt, and that goes in the diaper pail. She is 13 months and fully on solids, so it's easy to get the poop out. Wipes with EBF poop can go straight in the diaper pail. Transitional poops (gooey from some solids) are a nightmare!

I use the diaper to wipe him off first...and now that he's on solids, his poops are more, ahem, solid as well. Not too messy! :)

If you use liners, don't flush them...even though they say they can be flushed!

I kept a small basin in the bathroom, I'd drop the wipes in there
and then rinse them when i had a quick moment. I'd put the dirty water in the toilet.

I hardly get any poop on the wipes - I either use the diaper to wipe her butt first (you could use the part that has the liner on it), or the poops just aren't messy very often.

I used a yogurt container with water. After wiping her down i put the wipe in the container. I rinsed off poop from the wipe and then threw it in the diaper bag. For some of the bad messes, i used a disposable wipe because it was easier to get into the crevices.

Although I'm planning to use cloth wipes too, I just wanted to point out that you may want a regular trash can in the nursery (or easily accessible) anyway! I don't have one in the nursery yet and as I've been setting up the room I've realized what a pain it is not to have a trash can.

@Mrs.Someone: I was planning when baby started solids to use flushable liners, so I could just toss the bulk of the poo in the toilet with the liner and then throw the rest of the diaper in the hamper for washing.

With wipes there would be no barrier, so I'm assuming the bigger pieces of poo at least would need to be shaken off first.

Of course I'm just as clueless as you, but whats the difference between a wipe covered in poo and a diaper covered in it? I would think they could be washed together? Or do the diapers need rinsing first too?

So now that I have figured out cloth diapers, I need some help with cloth wipes lol.

At first I just thought I'd use disposable wipes even if I cloth diaper, but this seems impractical mostly because I'll need a separate garbage for the disposable wipes. Seems much nicer to just throw the wipes in the same place as the dirty diapers, especially when it's just pee most of the time.

My one big question is, what about when baby starts eating solids, I'm assuming I would not be able to put a poop covered cloth wipe directly in the hamper with my diapers, right? In that case what would I have to do? Rinse them in the toilet every time?

I guess I am trying to weigh which option seems more impractical: having to either have a separate garbage or throw away the wipes in another room or rinsing poopy cloth wipes?
