@Rosie Girl: Definitely consider doing a trial or rental then. I promise, it isn't as weird as it sounds. :)
I found a link that shows a lot of trial options. http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=886295

@pelikila: I didn't know that renting was an option! That might be the best way for me to start because there isn't any CD places within HOURS of me. The nearest town that I could think MIGHT have them (but as far as my online search goes, they don't) is about 2+ hours away, and we already have snow.

@Rosie Girl: Also, have you thought about doing a diaper trial or rental before you buy? It sounds kind of weird but I did a newborn diaper rental because I only bought one size diapers and those don't start fitting really well until around 10 lbs (IMO) and I wanted to cloth diaper as soon as possible. I used http://www.diaperdaisy.com/ and had absolutely no issue. I received totally new (tags still on and everything) fitted diapers and covers and I sent all of it back and received my full refund, no problem. They, as well as a few other retailers, have a diaper trial too where you pay a rental fee and a deposit and receive a variety of styles and brands of diapers and use them for a specified period of time and return anything you don't want to keep. If you keep any of it then they deduct the cost from your deposit and anything you return you get something like store credit or a refund on your deposit depending on the retailer. When I did the newborn diaper rental from Diaper Daisy I emailed back and forth for a bit first and was totally pleased by their customer service. If you choose to do a trial or rental, maybe email them asking questions first to get a feel for their customer service whatever retailer you choose.

@Rosie Girl: It was like that for me too. I understand, it's scary! I spent hundreds of dollars, and washed them so I couldn't just send them back if I didn't like them. I think I was extra determined to make it work because so many people told me that I wouldn't last cloth diapering.... and I knew that if I already spent the money I didn't have much of a choice so that would help me show them they were wrong!

@Rosie Girl: Is there a store of some kind within a few hours drive of you? For that kind of investment, I personally would choose to make the drive before deciding if one was anywhere kind of close. You might look at Padded Tush Stats' Retailer Database. She provides a nice searchable database for shipping fees, locations, etc. http://paddedtushstats.com/retailer-database/

Thanks for the tips everyone! I wish I could go somewhere to talk to someone about CD, but unfortunately, there is not 1 place in my town that sells them. I think that is why it feels harder. I have to do everything on the internet and order it all, which scares me because if its not what I am looking for I have to return it (a lot of money sending back and forth!). I will check out those sites though!

We're hoping to CD as well, and I think I will get most of the diapers from Green Mountain Diapers (www.greenmountaindiapers.com) There's a ton of information, and she makes things like prefolds seem easy-peasy!

To answer the last part of your question, obviously I use them and I absolutely love using them. Even my husband likes them as well as my daycare. I've been using them since day 3 once all the meconium was past. I use pockets, snap-in-ones (SIOs), and fitteds with covers. My personal favorites in each type right now (it has changed over time due to how my baby fits different things as he grows and how they wear over time) are the following: Fuzzibunz One Size (the new version is the Elite) for a pocket diaper, Itti Bitti D'Lish SIO (I wish I had more of these but can't justify it since I have so many pockets), and Thirsties Fab Fitteds with a Blueberry Coverall. Those are my go-to cloth diapers.

In the beginning since my son was EBF, we just washed every other day, no special extra steps. Once he started solids we spray with a diaper sprayer when poop is involved, spritz each diaper and insert with Bac-Out and then toss in the pail liner until wash day (3x per week for us).

I agree with Pelikila, different things work better for different moms and babies.

I use BG elementals and love them. All in one, one size. I was pretty overwhelmed with all the pockets, prefolds, etc. I didn't know what it all meant, I didn't know how to know how much of each to buy, and I was just going to give up. Then I found these. It's just like having a normal, disposable diaper all put together for you but you wash it. The con is that it's a big investment up front, $25 a diaper. However it's one size so they grow with your baby and you won't have to buy any more diapers. Let me know if you want more info on them!

There is no one "best" choice for cloth diapering. I use not only several different brands but several different styles depending on what my needs are. What you want depends on your preferences. Do you want a cloth diaper that essentially works like a disposable? If so, you may want a pocket diaper (Fuzzibunz or BumGenius are examples) or an All In One (AIO, BumGenius Elementals or Itti Bitti D'Lish AOI are examples). If you don't mind doing a little more assembly work then an All In Two or Snap In One (Itti Bitti Tutto and GroVia are examples) might be a good choice. Maybe you want the smallest investment and don't mind using a cover then I'd suggest you look at prefolds and covers.
Since you are overwhelmed then my suggestion is two things: 1) go to a local store that sells cloth diapers (not just BRU or Target that carry GroVia or gDiapers but one that carries a variety of styles and brands) and talk to them. Likely, they may have a cloth diapering class or just a well-informed salesperson that can help introduce you to and let you handle the different diapers and can talk to you about pros and cons. 2) one of my favorite resources is Dirty Diaper Laundry. She has a section of her site for people that are new to cloth diapers (http://dirtydiaperlaundry.com/cloth-diaper-information/) and lots of videos.

I have been thinking about going the clothe diaper route for DD. There are a couple reasons for this. One, I am now a SAHM, so I could actually do it (a lot of daycares around here won't do it). Two, I am a SAHM now, therefore our finances have taken a dramatic hit. And third, diapers are gross. They fill up the landfill, take FOREVER to decompose. While I may not be "green", I do like to help out where I can.

So, this leads to me this post. Where do I even start?! There are WAY too many websites on clothe diapering, and I get a little overwhelmed looking at them all. I want someone to turn me in the right direction, tell me what is best, and then I can go from there, hopefully :) Is there anyone here that can help spin me around?!

Also, who uses clothe diapers, and what is your experience with them? Does anyone use them and wish they didn't?
