It depends on if fabric softener was used or not. If it was, I'll rewash because I think they smell. If it wasn't (and we don't usually use it these days since having DS) I may toss them in the dryer.

@sulli301: From what I remember the old top loaders arent as sensitive as front loaders, so you can get away with being rougher with them. but the new energy efficient front loaders can easily get a build up because they are designed to use less water, less heat and get through the cycle faster.

Depends on the smell, usually overnight I"m okay with any longer than that I have to re-wash. Towels always seem to get smelly faster than clothes, that drives me bonkers. My DH is notorious of forgetting about a load of laundry!

We don't usually have problems with smells unless we forget the laundry in the washer for a couple of days (which I know since I've done it a couple times on accident), so if it smells fine we'll throw it into the dryer.

I do this all the time with our laundry. Since I don't like to do laundry often (and we do RJ's laundry once a week) I often have four or five loads to do for our clothes and linens. It usually doesn't smell the next morning, and I'll run the rinse cycle one more time to just get a fresh water rinse through the clothes. If it smelled I'd just wash again.

A trick I learned (because I am always leaving clothes in the washer...our dryer sucks and takes forever)-if you throw some oxyclean in with your wash, you will never get that mildew smell if you leave them too long!

I worked for a company that repaired washers and all I can say is over time can damager your washer especially if you have a more modern front loader, it causes build up inside the drum and for this reason when i had a washer I never left clothes inside. Now I use a shared laundry room in my apartment building so I never get the option to leave clothes in there over night.
