No advice but my 11-day-old is doing this too. Eats every 1.5 or so during the day and every 4 hrs at night. The nurse I spoke to suggested it might be a growth spurt. He seems fine but my boons hurt SO much when he spaces out the feeds at night.

@Weagle: that's good - Length is everything! DD just got her night feelings down to less than 45 minutes from awake to back to sleep and it feels amazing compared to the hour and a half it was taking her first week! Although I'm sure this will change in no time haha.

@fussygal: It seems a long time, but it really wasn't difficult because she was taking less than 10 minutes to eat. If she took forever it would have been a different story!

@NurseMommy: I've been making sure she eats from the side we finished on first (when I can remember -haha). I've been using Baby Connect but sometimes I don't have it within reach. Hopefully that's helping get her some hind milk, too!

@Weagle: oh man, four months! she's usually pretty content and/or passed out after eating (she's a pretty sleepy eater) which is a good sign! Hopefully the numbers agree on Thursday!

My LO was sort of the opposite-- she would eat forever, but it was still really frequent-- like, a 45 minute session, then she would want to eat again within 2 hours of starting, so a little over an hour after finishing, if that makes sense. She also wasn't quite at her birth weight at her 2 week appt but she was close enough that the ped wasn't at all concerned.

I have pretty much let her lead and fed on demand this entire time and we've never had supply or weight issues-- though of course, that's not necessarily cause and effect, since maybe I CAN let her lead BECAUSE we haven't had issues.

I would try not to worry too much, at least until this appt.

There is a growth spurt around two weeks that could lead to lots of what seems like snacking. Does she seem satisfied after nursing? My LO was similar in that she ate every 1.5 hours for the first 4 months or so. She rarely ate more than 7-10 minutes, only one side, but she was always satisfied. Since she's so young, I would definitely still feed on demand. As long as she's gaining some weight I wouldn't be too worried. And her frequent feeding may be her making up for lost time from the tongue tie!

What I did to try and make sure dd was getting the hind milk was start her off on the breast she finished on. It worked for us.

For the past four or five days DD (15 days old) is up to eat almost every hour during the day - sometimes twice an hour. She's quite the snacker! I usually get some long 2-3 hour stretches at night and late evening, but during the day she's eating soooo often. I want to be feeding her on demand but I also want to make sure she's getting enough hind milk, which I worry she's not getting since some of her frequent feelings are kinda short. My lactation consultant said to try and space her outa bit more as long as she isn't fussing too much, but it feels so mean to deny her!

At her two week appt she was still 4% away from birth weight so I'm a bit obsessed with her feedings. The doc wasn't too worried since she was having the tongue tie issue (now clipped) but she wanted to see us again this Thursday for a weight check and I'm so nervous and feel a lot of pressure to get her back up to weight. Any advice on how to deal with her snacking? Is this just a cluster feeding wave I have to ride or are there any tips for managing it all?
