I think the 4yo will be fine! We do that with our almost 4yo and he's fine...when he was younger he wouldn't really co sleep with us so we never did it before age 3.

Recently LO (2) and I went on a trip and I decided to just cosleep with her rather than try to mess with a PnP or some other arrangement. It was not good. :bummed: She took at least 2 hours to fall asleep every night. The last night I just Benadryl-ed her.

But! She went right back to sleeping in her crib when we got home. She has actually been sleeping in every day for the past month every since that trip. 13-14 hours per night.

I did this with DS in the fall at 2.5. Most nights I just lay with him a few minutes while he settled in. When we came home he had no problem going into his own bed.

We've done this a lot, and we haven't had a problem switching back. Sometimes, the first night home is a little rough, but LO is usually happy to see her own bed again.

Good luck! :goodluck:

We do this regularly with our 2yo. He knows it's a different place and if he really resists the portacot (why are those things so uncomfortable?!) he will usually get in with us. But he likes his own cot at home so slips back into it fairly seamlessly once we are home.

He sleeps better on his own, so I think that helps the transition back! Good luck, I love holiday sleeping arrangements...always fun times!

Whenever we traveled as kids (my brother and I are 4 years apart) my mother made a big floor bed out of blankets or sleeping bags or whatever she could get a hold of and had us sleep there. No worrying about falling off a bed or kicking my parents. She would lay down with us until we fell asleep and then she'd creep out until it was her own bedtime. The floor bed meant there wasn't any movement on the bed to worry about. One time she set up a floor bed in a big closet!

We have had all sorts of sleeping arrangements when traveling at different ages. I think the LOs somehow understand that vacation is not home, things are different but not permanent, and we've never had any real trouble getting back into the routine once we have returned home. Good luck!

This was us a few months back, and I was nervous as heck about it. First about them not going to sleep when in the same room/bed as us, then about them not going back to their own beds. Neither of those worries panned out - it took longer for them to fall asleep with us, but they did and it was fine. And when we came home, they were so happy to see their own beds and rooms, the transition back was fine too.

So, no tips or advice, but hopefully it will all be fine for you as well!

So we bit the bullet and are flying cross country to visit my dad in DC and will also be spending a week at a beach house in the Outer Banks. The kids (will be barely 2 and almost 4) have slept in their own beds, in their own rooms 99.99% of the time. This will be the first time we co-sleep for more than a night or two (almost 2 weeks!) and I'm nervous about the transition back once we get home.

Any suggestions, tips, success stories? :)
