I always take his puffer coat off and keep him in his fleece.

But i was thinking, wouldn't it be ok if you unzip the coat so the harness clip is against his chest?

We honestly haven't driven many places when it's super cold anyway, but I do blankets and a car seat cover bundling thing. We have a fleece snowsuit but it's really bulky so I def wouldn't drive with it on. We also have indoor parking so the car is t super cold when we get in.

I always take DD out of her puffy coat but if it is chilly she wears a thin fleece hoodie to keep her warm and I put the coat on top of her. I actually just had a... "discussion".. with my mom about this because she thinks I am freezing her granddaughter and doesn't understand why I take off the coat. I've explained to her the safety reasoning and she says "but so many people do it and you wear your coat sometimes!". How do you fight with that? I still won't keep her in her coat and rather tuck her coat on top of her, but I will never hear the end of it from my mother.

Luckily our weather never gets too terrible (the coldest it ever gets here was the cold snap last week of 30) and so a fleece coat always works fine. She wears it in the car seat... anything thicker than that and I put it on afterwards.

I put M in a fleece hoodie and warm the car up beforehand (my remote-starter was the best Christmas gift ever). I'm sure people are judging me on our way into the store, but I just keep her in the fleece. I'm in Bostong so its' cold but it's not worth wrestling her into a bigger jacket for the one minute that we'll be outside.

When it was -41 with windchill this week and the car still isn't warm after running for however long, my kid being warm is just as important as their safety in the straps. I am very diligent with her in her winter coat to have straps perfectly straight/as they should be and that straps pulled as tight as possible. Her not having a coat on this cold on the way to the car/in the car just looks foolish, the coat stayed on and in she went safe and sound!

We have a thin fleece car coat and a puffer coat. When we are driving somewhere she gets the car coat. I figure we will just bring the puffer with us to daycare and she can wear it during recess. It's only a few steps from the parking lot into the building so I think she'll survive with her car coat.

we have a thin patagonia fleece coat we use as the car seat coat.

if it's really cold, we do the tedious transfer..where we dress him up with puffer coat, and then undo him in the car, buckle him in and then put puffer coat and a blanket over him. we almost always warm the car up first, so he's not cold during the buckling in.

I put him a light, fleece lined wind-breaker like jacket over a hooded fleece pull-over, and throw a blanket over him. Possibly still too puffy but we have an old car that takes forever to heat and when it does, the backseat doesn't get very much of it. I'm trying to balance keeping him warm enough when it's ass-cold outside and keeping him safe in his seat.

I've noticed the same thing at my LO's daycare. Most parents just pull their kids out of the car seat wearing their full winter coats. I jump in the backseat, unbuckle, put her in my lap and put her coat on. It's a hassle, but I'd rather have the hassle and keep her safe.

i voted that i do bundle him up, but he has a coat that's more of a denim shell with fleece liner, so it's not a puffy coat. i don't change the straps for when he's wearing the coat, and yes, i feel like i get a serious workout every time i strap him in.

I know that you're not supposed to have your LO wear his/her coat while in their car seat unless it's thin enough that you don't have to loosen the straps while they're wearing it. However, I've noticed that 9 times out of 10 when I'm dropping off or picking up DS from daycare, other parents just pull their kids out of the car with all of their winter gear on while I need to wrestle with DS to get him out of his seat and put on his coat. So I'm just curious to know if most people follow the no coat in the carseat thing or bundle their LO up.

I added a poll to be anonymous. Honestly, not judging, just curious.
