COBRA is retroactive to the last date you were covered with your former ins. It may be less to pay the appt OOP though, our COBRA was >$1,500/month :(

I got an email back from the CFO - it was supposed to last through August. So they're working with the insurer to
Fix it. I'm hangry and pregnant and did NOT want to deal with this today...ha. So hopefully they will fix it and if not I can purchase cobra for the month retroactively hopefully.

This seems to be in line with what my coworker told me. Looks like it is 60 days instead of 30.

That being said -- would your COBRA premium be lower than your OB visit cost? I have heard that COBRA is very expensive since you don't have any employer subsidy.

I thought that COBRA could be signed up retroactively up to 30 days after termination of employment. Meaning, if you were terminated Aug 1, you would have until Aug 31 to sign up for COBRA. I am not too knowledgeable about this but this is what a coworker of mine did when he had a break in employment. He basically didn't schedule anything between his end date & start date, but figured that if there was something catastrophic that happened between the dates, he could sign up retroactively and it would be covered under the terms of the previous plan.

Well, my first question is, did you prepay health insurance?

And if you don't, did you receive a credit for two weeks?

(We always paid in advance, that's how the employer set it up)

So my last day at my former job was Aug 1. The CFO there told me that my health insurance coverage would continue through 8/31. My first day at my new job was 8/18; I'm not applicable for their health insurance until 9/1.

I just got my COBRA letter stating that my health insurance was dropped on 8/1. Great. Even if I could enroll now I don't think it would be active until 9/1at the earliest?

I had a pregnancy checkup on 8/20. Awesome. My ob/gyn bills globally so I don't *think* it will be an issue but I'm annoyed. I had a hunch that something would be f'd up with my insurance so I cancelled my NT scan that was scheduled on 8/21; right now I'm glad they did (that's diagnostic and a separate bill).

Anyway, anyone have any insight on COBRA that might be helpful? Thanks.
