Man, people are looney. I thought the commercial was beautiful - I actually teared up while it was on. I have de-friended people over similar things, and if any of my fb friends had negatives things to say about that commercial, well...off, they go!</p> <p>I like to think of The US not as a melting pot but rather as a big pot of stew. To me, a melting pot indicates that all the parts melt down and blend and become one homogenous thing, like a big pot of fondue. But I don't see the US as such. My first thought was how perfectly it represented America - a land built by immigrants and beautifully diverse. </p> <p>And yet. People are freaking out. Saying absurd things like "American soldiers didn't die so that America the Beautiful could be sung in foreign languages." What? English is hardly the native language of America anyway... how quickly we forget that this land wasn't always ours. </p> <p>I need to get better Facebook friends. </p>
