I use it for my hair, it works wonders. I use shea butter for moisturising, so don't bother with coconut oil for that.

I use it for all my cooking. It really doesn't have a taste like you might think it would. My grandma always used it and finally got me hooked on it! I've heard it's healthier but don't quote me on that!

I've been using it the past few weeks and I can't really taste any coconut.

This is an article my husband sent me about it, apparently it had a really bad reputation a few years ago, but is making a come back: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/02/dining/02Appe.html?_r=1&emc=eta1

He is trying to lose weight and freaked out when I told him I cooked dinner with it... this was in his apology e-mail after more research :)

@miss-spunkin: does it leave a strong coconut taste when you cook with it? I don't think I would mind, but the hubs might... coconut + eggs doesn't sound like a good combo!

My mom and sister are obsessed with it! They were learning about how unhealthy traditional oils are, even olive oil, they said, supposedly goes rancid when cooked at high temps. So my sister cooks almost exclusively with coconut oil. It can also be used in the place of butter for baking, I did this when I made granola last week - yum!
I also used it on my breasts the day I was engorged and it really helped relieve the itchiness and smelled a whole lot better than using cabbage lol

I haven't cooked with it but during my early stages of pregnancy I used it to prevent stretch marks. i eventually stopped because it was too annoying to get to a slather-able form, and it stained my clothes. It smelled sooo good though!

my cousin is obsessed with coconut oil. he gets virgin coconut oil exported from the Philippines and makes homemade coconut water with it. He says it helps with his weight loss/metabolism and there is a certain healthy fat in it only otherwise found in breastmilk.

it seems to be a new health trend! good points about using it as a diaper cream, moisturizer, etc... I'll maybe pick some up. I do love coconut water!

I picked up a jar of coconut oil the other day because I heard it's really good for cloth diapering (as a "diaper cream" and to help with rashes)-- then I started reading up about it and have seen so many uses for it! Cooking, body moisturizer, hair care... has anyone used it before?

I'd like to experiment with cooking with it (I love the smell/taste of coconut), but I've seen people using it to make eggs and other savory dishes. What's your experience with coconut oil?

Oh! And apparently Trader Joe's sells a 16 oz jar for $5.99 which is a pretty good deal.
