The company my husband works for does coffee or lunch interviews so they can gauge personality fit. The personality fit is just as important, if not more than technical skills and experience for them (defence contractor)! The coffee/lunch is more personal questions and trying to get a feel for the person for them.

DH is in the biotech industry and he has done lots of coffee interviews. It seems to be normal in a lot of industries now. Sorry don't have any advice for what type of questions they plan to ask! But I am guessing the hiring manager wants to get to know your personality to see if you're a good fit for the team

I've had a bunch of coffee interviews. I would just treat it like a normal interview and do your research, dress professionally, bring your resume, etc.

I had that when I got my job. I'd been interviewed for another position a few months earlier, and they contacted me when another one became available. but they still had to "interview" me so I met the manager for coffee casually. We still talked about what would be expected in the position and what I would have to contribute, but it was just slightly less formal.

I would treat any meting with a prospective employer before you are hired as an interview!

I don't know specifically about coffee as a second interview, but part of my second interview (first round in person) was over lunch. That part was a bit more relaxed than the more formal interviews. I would try to be ready to handle more of the same types of questions from your first interview. If you didn't do a lot of homework on the company before your first interview, do some now and come prepared with questions to ask your prospective manager.

Sounds promising!

So two weeks ago I was contacted by a recruiter, this happens often and I'm not looking for a job so I said I wasn't interested. He called my back and said the company saw my resume posted online and they really want to meet with me for a position they have and he explained what the position is.

It would be a big step up career wise for me so I decided it was worth a shot to go in and meet them. Since I'm not currently in the job market I figured there's nothing to lose. I met with the recruiter and manager last week.

I think the interview went really well, and I ended up leaving feeling very positive about it. They said due to scheduling conflicts I won't hear back from them until at least December 10th. Today I got an email saying that they would like me to go for coffee with the manager asap. So I now have plans to have coffee with the manager tomorrow at lunch.

Does anyone have experience with going for coffee as a second interview? Is it still classified as an interview. What kind of questions should I expect?

I'm in HR... I should already know all of this, but for some reason I'm nervous!
