I ate lunch meat a couple of times my whole pregnancy. I didn't need crave it that much do it wasn't an issue for me. I'm sure the little bit I had was harmless.

I ate it all the time without a second thought through both pregnancies. (But like @anagram I also went with "everything in moderation" including occasional sushi and small glasses of wine, etc.)

All the time... I don't eat at sketchy delis so I wasn't worried about it.

And I agree, listeria seems to be in spinach, cantaloupe and whatever else I've heard about recently...

Yeah... I agree with all of you, it seems like all the listeria I've heard about has been fruits and veggies, not lunchmeat.

I packed some chicken and rice for lunch which sounds totally gross... Subway sounds good! LOL

My doctor told me to avoid cold much meat and I have with each pregnancy (I'm a first born rule-follower, what can I say! Lol). It was the first thing that I ate after having LO! I think you are totally fine though having it every now and then - I'm just super cautious. I've really been craving a sandwich though... I think in a few weeks, when I'm a little further along, I'm going to go for it. I agree that all the listeria outbreaks I've ever heard of have been linked to fruit and veggies.

My DH has taken all the food restrictions very seriously including deli meat so I tend to avoid it even though I am not too worried about it. I stick to paninis since at least the meat is warmed up but if I really want a sub I will have one.

Nuking it made me gag... so I only tried that once. I ate normal turkey sandwiches about once a week-- just meat I got from Costco or Trader Joe's, and Subway.

I eat it all the time, prepackaged and everything. That's not on my doctor's no-no list (hardly anything is), and the most deadly listeria outbreak in the US was a few years back with cantaloupe, with the candy apple debacle more recently---so I just feel like, lunch meat isn't so bad. Listeria can come from anywhere!

But ya know, I also drink coffee and eat soft serve and had real sushi.

My OB said as long as I wasn't eating deli meats from gas stations, I was fine. If you google for listeria outbreaks, they are all connected to fresh fruits and veggies, not the scapegoat deli meat (leave my ham aloneeeeeeee!) :silly:

@MrsADS: I have had it occasionally and never felt bad about it. I tried heating it up too, it tastes really nasty if you do that, so don't do it. haha. I've found some good alternatives instead. I'll cook up chicken breast and use that on sandwiches. Or I'll do egg salad. Stuff like that.
