I think our dr told us to get a certain Mucinex last time with a specific dosage... We tried not to use it too much though. Same with the Zarbee's natural stuff... Just a little bit when we get desperate.

I was a pretty strict no cough/cold meds for kids under 4 but we got super desperate this last time and tried that Hylands nighttime stuff (D's almost 4 anyway). It was amazing. I still try to avoid stuff during the day and just treat with honey, and his cough usually gets better during the day anyway. But if it gets bad enough, I'd be willing to try the daytime version of the Hyland's.

My older LO gets Mucinex when he has a cough. It works really well and he doesn't cough at night. For my younger LO, we give her Chestal Honey. I gave her some last night before going to bed and she didn't cough at all.

@PawPrints: The cold meds we have are for 2+ and they make a daytime one, but probably because it's "natural". We tried the Zarbee's brand too but that smelled terrible so we don't use that one.

Do you give your LO specific cold medicine when they have a cold? I usually just give Ibuprofen but last night I gave Hyland's Cough n Cold Nighttime and she actually slept all night. I'm wondering if the regular pain reliever isn't helping much and I need to get some cold meds for her to take during the day.
