I have had two! (And I'm 39). My grandfather survived colon cancer, and I had some inflammation (ulcerative colitis), so got checked as a precaution. All clear both times for cancer.

I agree with @bhbee:, the procedure is totally fine - they give IV sedation, so you wake up and it's done, and you feel like you had a nice nap. The prep is annoying, but the last time I had to do it (in December) I had the more modern stuff, which is a split dose of a small bottle of laxative. Gross tasting, but not too much to drink, and the bathroom part actually wasn't that bad. It's great that you're being proactive! Hope everything goes really smoothly for you.

I’ve had two (I’m 39) due to colon issues that raise risk. No family history. One was looking at ulcerative colitis, which we already suspected I had a mild case of; the second was just a proactive check. No cancerous results, thankfully.

The procedure itself is no big deal, they usually do twilight sleep. The prep is not fun (cleaning your bowel out at home), but I’ve heard some prep is easier than others so I hope you do an easy one! Either way, small price to pay to check for something that you want to catch early. That’s really encouraging that all your family members beat it!

Have you had a colonoscopy? If so, how old were you at the time? Did you have family history of colon cancer? What were your results?

I go in next week for mine. My dad, grandpa and aunt all had colon cancer (all survived it), so I’m getting my first one slightly early at age 42. I’m nervous!!
