@pastemoo: Yes, everyone's milk is different. As is how much they produce in one sitting. But the cool thing is that it is exactly what the child needs.

@everyone: OHh. I guess it is just a change over time. Good to know.

@BabyBoecksMom: This makes sense--I was really engorged that time.

Also... I think it's interesting that different people have different amounts of the fatty hind milk. My SIL came over and left her milk in the fridge (for her 6 month old when my LO was just born) and her milk was blue with no fatty layer on top and mine was SUPER yellow. Now it's not so yellow, but it's still a good 5-10% fat on top.

If I'm engorged, it's more clear and blueish but most of the time it's a light yellow. It definitely separates in the fridge so I always swirl it before making a bottle.

Mine is almost always blue/clear at the bottom and a thin layer of white/yellow on the top.

That happens to mine, too. The longest I've left my milk in the fridge was 7 days--it passed the taste and smell test :) But we usually try to feed her expressed milk by day 3.

I know too sometimes my pumped milk is more watery and others its more milky. I think sometimes it depends on how "full" I am when I pumped.

the longer it stays in the fridge the more it settles and separates. I know you can leave it in the fridge for longer but i move mine to the freezer after 24 hours of being in the fridge

Mine separates in the fridge too. Will you be out of town for several days? I keep my milk in the fridge for 8 days max.

yup the longer i leave it in the fridge, the more it changes color and transparency wise. the fat rises to the top and the bottom becomes more transparent, and my milk it blue-ish.

If it has separated, I think that's normal. The creamy stuff could be your hind milk?

What color is your pumped milk, and how do you know if something is wrong with it?

Tuesday I was super engorged when I pumped and I am now looking at that milk in the fridge and it looks very separated--practically clear on the bottom, milky in the middle and cream on top. Usually it just looks kind of yellow-white with the cream on the top. Did I eat something weird? I'm going to throw it away anyway since we're going out of town today and it's already 3 days old, but.... what's wrong with my milk?

What color is your pumped milk? Does it ever change color or transparency?
