@prettylizy: Oh I don't even know if it's true. But I got my contractions started after the epidural stopped them by nipple stimulation because pitocin scared me. Also when I was past my due we tried that too. And I lotioned up the boobies during pregnancy. I have no idea if those things helped get milk in faster or not but you can induce some lactation with nipple stimulation without even being pregnant.

@Maysprout: did you mean lotioning up during pregnancy (like to ease stretchmarks) or is there some sore of new technique I need to know about to get my milk to come in sooner?

I think around 7-8 months but it wasn't much. I'm not sure if there's a correlation or not between milk coming in and when colostrum shows up. My milk came in after 2 days but I think it has more to do with lotioning up the boobies and trying to get contractions re-started (after I got my epidural they stopped completely)....so having nipple stimulation before baby.

I wake up every morning with a little bit of dried colostrum on my nipples, and once I actually leaked a drop through to my shirt during the day (luckily it was at home on a Sunday in my PJ's. I started noticing it around 22 weeks or sor.

I leaked colostrum a lot when I was pregnant. But it still took a long time for my milk to come in which caused issues breastfeeding.

Try not to worry about things you have no control of! As long as your baby is fed, that's what matters. Whether it's bottle or breast.

Mine didn't come in until two days AFTER my daughter was born - it was a very stressful time. But, still, I was able to breastfeed...The first week was just difficult.

As far as I know, there is no correlation between pre-birth leaking of colostrum and success with breastfeeding (from my LC studies and from working in NICU)

I didn't notice mine before I gave birth. My milk coming in was quite an easy transition physically, no major engorgement. I noticed the emotional/hormonal changes waaaay more! Anyway, I have had absolutely no issues with BF and EBF for 6 months. I was really lucky because my LO was an awesome latcher so I never had any pain.

From what I have read most initial BF issues are due to poor latching rather than supply. Maybe look on you tube for video of good latches? And try not to worry about it to much - it won't change the result. Easier said than done, I know!

I started getting colostrum around 7 or 8 months I think. Mine actually did some really awefull things for a while and I still don't know what it was about but then it was better. I didn't actually leak though, not till my milk came in.

When did you notice that your colostrum had come? Did you leak? Is there a relation between getting colostrum and being able to BF?

Sorry so many questions! I have been googling it, but can't really find the answers, and what better place then here to ask?!

I can't remember much about it with DS, since that was 4 yrs ago. And I am still very worried about being able to BF DD when she arrives :)
