In my local babywearing group, Connecta's are all the rage. They make a solar version that's made out of swim trunk fabric, great fot hot days! There is no padding/waistband at all.

I am a huge fan of woven wraps. One of my favorites for comfort is also under $100, and is a hybrid stretchy, so you can safely use it for back carries. I found it to be comfortable until Lorelei was a bigger toddler (around age two), but even now we could use one in multi-layer carries and be okay. Right now she is 3.5 and about 40 pounds. It's the Wrapsody Stretch Hybrid. Otherwise many of the wrap brands already mentioned are great values. Joining a b/s/t page on Facebook might be a good way to learn more; there are pages dedicated to certain price-points if that's helpful, or also groups just for chatting about wraps and other carriers. If you really like the MT style, there are many choices within that range, and if someone in your life is sewing-savvy you can find patterns online and make your own/have one made. As he grows you might appreciate having wider straps to distribute the weight better, or that you can spread out across his bum to give some added support. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. I always love to chat babywearing!

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I decided to pick up the Infantino Mei Tei on my Target run and so far I love it!

It's cooler than the Ergo, still comfortable on my shoulders and upper back, and the waist tie is much more comfortable when sitting. Little E man likes it too, he took 2 naps in it already. Who knew something so simple could be so comfortable?

I'll definitely look into woven wraps as he gets bigger. I have a few other things I need to buy for him so I'm going to wait a bit on that. Thanks again!

@macintosh: I think a woven wrap or a soft structured carrier with wrap straps would be more supportive and cooler. Look for linen blend fabrics which are cool temperature wise and supportive of weight.

Stretchy wraps like a moby or k'tan are on the warm side and less supportive than woven wraps or soft structured carriers. They'll be hard on your back too since baby sags more in the carrier.

An adjustable ring sling like Sakura bloom is comfort than a peanut shell.

Didymos is a nice woven wrap brand that is budget friendly. You can find them used or new online. Storchenweige is another budget but quality brand.

Woven wraps are soo comfy! They also last a long time and can support your baby as he/she grows. 5minuterecess.com has some inexpensive wraps so you don't have to spend too much if you find you don't like wrapping. Little frog, lenny lamb are some of the cheaper woven wraps. You can also find some girasol wraps under 150$. Once you get the hang of wrapping it'll be so worth it and you'll love it!

I have a wrap conversion mei tai (mine is the Didytai, but there's also the Fidella Flytai and a few others) and it's perfect for me. I can sit down comfortably (unlike with the Beco Gemini) and the wrap fabric plus being able to cross the straps over his butt (so his seat has three layers of support) makes him easy to carry even now that's he's 20 lbs. Don't waste your time with a stretchy wrap - go for a woven wrap mei tai!

I'm surprised I'm the first person here to recommend a Lillebaby carrier. They have a lumbar support piece that makes a world of difference in comfort when carrying a heavy LO for long periods of time. We love ours. They also make a carrier called an Airflow that is mostly mesh to keep LO cool in hot weather.

Check out the solly baby wrap! I don't have one myself, although I want one for my next baby. I've heard the fabric is really lightweight and soft. I follow the owner of the company on IG and she still wears her daughter in it, and I think she's like 17 months now. They recommend it mostly for the first year though. The price point is nice, and lots of colors!

@macintosh: I have an infantino mei tai. It is comfier for sitting down, but after 10 pounds or so it started to hurt my back because it has to be tied higher on the waist not closer to the hips like my ergo and beco.

The ergo baby wrap I think is stretchy. So you won't get long term use out of it. I would check Babywearing on a budget on Facebook. That way you could try a woven without a huge investment.

Are you staying seated for the rest of the nap? This might feel too risky to some people, but if I'm down and planning to stay down I just unbuckle my carrier then spread out the waist strap across my seat so I remember it isn't fastened.

@macintosh: Oh man, too big! Just looked and she was a little over 16 lbs. I think she technically would have been fine to be in the Moby, it just wasn't as comfortable for me and that was when we had finally transitioned to crib naps. She was such a crummy napper that we skipped the 4 mo regression because she couldn't get worse, ha! 9 mo however...eek.

Depending on how big your LO, mine would take naps in the Moby all the time and I could get super comfy in the recliner (agree with the Ergo not working for anything other than standing!). But she outgrew it by 4mo I think, also is a huge chunk. I think any soft wrap type carrier would work well.

Long story short: 4 month sleep regression and LO will only get a good nap if I wear him. I have the Ergobaby 360 and it's comfy enough when I'm out an about, but not great when I'm at home and sitting down to work. The wide waist belt is good for my back when standing but not so great when I sit down and my muffin top comes out :silly:

LO also gets really hot and sweaty in the Ergo, which bothers me more than him. Can anyone recommend a carrier or wrap that might be more comfy for me? TIA!
