@Coco Bee: Looking back, I wish I did more skin to skin. We did it from birth (8:30pm) until the next day at around noon when a nurse helped us with his first sponge bath. At the end of the bath she just said "where are baby's clothes?" and without questioning her I just got them and we dressed him and that was the beginning of him wearing clothes!

Something with snaps. My baby was vacuumed out and appeared to have a wicked headache for the first few days (like, every time you touched her head she yelled). So nothing over the head. Same thing happened to my sister and her baby.

We kept it simple. Just a cute footed sleeper.

@cvbee: DS wasn't in clothes at the hospital at all. I had him on my chest doing skin to skin nearly ALL the time. When he wasn't skin to skin with me or DH, he was swaddled in a blanket and our room was really warm.

We're going to do a kimono style top and footed pants, maybe layered over a onesie depending on how chilly it is.

I brought her home in a onesie my friend bought her.
Baby boy will come home in cotton pants and a kimono style shirt my Lo wore when she was younger.
Lo didnt wear cute clothes until she was close to 3 months old..
So baby boy will wear most of his sister's infant clothes until he's a bit older.

my family goes really traditional with the coming home outfit. we don't find out boy/girl until next week, but if baby is a girl she'll come home in the same fancy little dress i came home in. if it's a boy, i'll go get him a cute little dressy sweater outfit like this:

First of all, I didn't realize at my hospital that they would keep me there for a few days and expect LO to be wearing his own clothes. So our 'coming home' outfit just ended up being his 'first outfit in the hospital' outfit. It was a onesie and hat with this name on it, and little pants and little socks. I loved that his name was there on his body for his first photos, but it would have been better if it was a simpler thing like a footed pajama. Then DH had to go home and bring us a bunch more outfits. I don't even remember what LO wore home.....it was cold outside so in the going home photos you just see his name-hat and blankets.

I also bought LO a 3-piece Carter's outfit (yellow duckie), but being a newbie first time mom, I couldn't get the onesie over her head (LOL) so I ended up bringing her home in just the footed pants and cardigan (plus mittens and hat). I did have her totally tucked away in a thick blanket and I sat in the backseat with her, but my heart shudders when I think about how that's all she wore in the end of February!!!

I got a 3 piece outfit from carters. It was footed pants, a onesie and matching cardigan. I bought it in 2 sizes just in case she was big as we expected. She wasn't. We had a matching hat, too but she had a peanut head and it was WAY too big. So, she looked super cute, but was comfy and practical, too.

I bought a cute blue outfit and some adorable little blue and white shoes. My mom and I were shopping when I was visiting them (they live out of state) and she seemed to want me to...it's what she always did. The day we were leaving the hospital though I was so exhausted, I was tempted to not even put it on him, but I did. I am happy that I have little baby shoes that he came home in. I know I will treasure them when he's big!

we bought a little 3-piece set at target - it's a carter's onesie, with fleece pants and a zip up hoodie. super cozy and cute!

ETA - as a nanny I'm very comfortable dressing newborns, but my husband has never dressed a baby, so I figured he could help dress her with the pants and hoodie - no scary pulling-over-the-head for him. he's excited!

I debated over this for so long while I was pregnant. I ended up getting something practical: a cream footed sleeper. But honestly, I was so tired, achy and in pain that the last thing I really wanted to do was take cutesy pictures right then and there so she could have come home in anything!

A long-sleeved one piece footed PJ sleeper. It was the first time I ever dressed a baby, and I didn't have to put anything over his head, figure out how to put on pants, or worry about socks. Worked well for us, and he looked very cute.
