I'd have said to him, "Please accept my apology for her rudeness." </p> <p>I've done that to my mom before when she's spouted out something crazy. She didn't realize how rude her comment was, usually it stems from thoughtlessness or being a know it all. Once my mom asked my distant cousin how much she had gained so far in pregnancy :bummed: I immediately came out with, "MOM! You can't ask things like that.
