@Kaohinani: My entire induction to birth was 12 hours total, which is shorter than the time it took me to get to 3cm with my natural (14 hrs timeable contractions to 3cm, 13 hrs after that to birth) so I think that was definitely a contributing factor. The other thing is that my contractions were only three minutes apart from 1cm with my natural so my body didn't have time to recover between contractions.

1st went into natural labor, the contractions were absolutely unthinkably painful, by the time I got to the hospital I thought I was going to die.

2nd was induced and I was expecting it to be worse with pitocin but they were very mild up until I was about 8 cm and then I got an epidural. It was definitely less painful than my natural labor.

I went into labor spontaneously with DD1 and was induced with DD2 and the contractions felt the same with both. I did not have pitocin during my induction though so maybe that makes a difference. I only needed one dose of cytotec to kick things off.

Thanks ladies!! I was just curious. As I said I was induced with my first and second baby. Now my second was more chill cause i know how to breathe. I have another scheduled induction at 39 weeks in case this baby is not here by then. I have an irritable uturus and my body likes to give me 3-5 min apart contractions but they never do anything. I joked with my husband that now we have an induction set up she will surprise us. Well today I've been lightly cramping on and off since my appointment and its definitely hurting more but nothing signifying labor is near. I was just worried this time it wouldnt hurt till I was like 7 cm Haha. I doubt it though. These kinda suck but nothing i cant deal with. Odds are I'll fall asleep and they will stop.

@cyoung: contractions were worse with the induction. Mostly because I couldn’t use many coping Mechanisms - with my first natural labor I labored in the shower for a long time. Ajth the induction, I was continuously monitored so I couldn’t go in the shower. The monitors felt so tight and uncomfortable on my stomach which made the contractions worse. I was able to try different positions but it was very hard to feel free to move around being connected to the ob and the monitors. I also had my water broken much sooner with the induction which obviously made the contractions much more painful

Wishing you the best!!

@Ms. RV: I am curious (since I couldn't deliver either DD [induction] or DS [natural] naturally), did you find natural more painful because you were laboring longer than you were with induction or was it just, simply, an entirely different experience?

My natural was sooooo much more painful than my induction. With my induction I got to 7cm before I requested the epidural (and that is because I was running out of time). With my natural the pain was so intense I had to get it at 3cm.

My first two were inductions. Pitocin made horrible contractions and I was very thankful for the epidural. For my third labor, I had back cramps starting at 0430, but didn't realize that is what it was until my water broke at 1400. DD2 was born at 1600 and it was only painful in the last hour and pushing of course.

For me, natural labor was so much less painful.

@cyoung: Although I had 2 csections, I was induced with #1 (DD) and found out I was in the early stages of labor with #2 (DS) the day of my scheduled csection. 😳 The induction hurt WAYYYY more for me because I was barely effaced and the contractions came on STRONG and 1 minute apart with NO progression for 12 hours after my water broke (think going from a 3 to a 10 on the Borg Scale). I ended up having a seizure (* I was there for preeclampsia) and my BP went out of control while DD'S dropped dangerously low ... immediate csection. As stated, with DS, I was feeling "rhythmic contractions" but they weren't terrible so I thought I was having increased Braxton Hicks (we didn't even THINK to time them as we had to go to the hospital at 5 am anyway)! They delivered my DS via csection for fear I'd seize again even though I would have preferred to have atleast try a VBAC. To respond- neither of my births went full spectrum so IDK which would have been more intense had I delivered naturally; however, the induction was far more painful for me. 🤷‍♀️

I would rate mine about the same, though every birth was a little different. I didn’t have pitocin with my induction though. My first hurt a lot early and seemed to take forever, my second went fast and so by the time it hurt a lot things were really moving along. Third was induction. So if you went on your own for a third, it may well go quickly and cut down the early labor time.

I had 2 unmedicated births, one augmented with Cervadil after my water broke on its own and the other I was induced with Pitocin bc I was overdue. I would say the Pitocin hurt more bc I didn't get a break between the contractions as I did when it was "fully" natural, not induced with #1. If that answers your question 😄 I don't have anything to compare it to but looking back, the worst pain was very short lived.

I had one induced, one natural and actually the natural hurt more!

ETA: I think b/c induction was at the hospital and more "controlled" vs natural on-coming labor just caught me off guard more!

Ladies who were induced and also have gone into labor themselves

Did going onnyour own not hurt as much in the early labor stages? I was induced both time and i just remember waking up and it was extremely painful but by morning was only a 3. I was not given pitocin till after my epidural. I have a high pain tolerance though so I was kinda surprised my early contractions hurts so much and I wasnt in transition or even ton a 4 or 5 by morning. When you ladies went on your own did it hurt less or just about the same.
