Personally I would recycle it. However, if it isn't doing the blue screen of death constantly, it might be salvageable. Usually BSOD means that there is some hardware incompatibility or failure (typically a graphics card, but not always).

I would wipe it and recycle it. Dell computers tend to be POS computers anyway and not worth much once they are fried.

It sounds like the same issue I had with mine, and it turned out the hard drive was fried. I'd wipe it and recycle it. I don't think you'd get much for it if you tried to sell it.

You could try reformatting it and seeing if it works after that - if so, you could donate it or try to sell it then.

I'd wipe the hard drive and donate it to GoodWill. That's what we did with our old desktops.

DBAN is a good tool to use for completing wiping the drive.

OK, I'm not a computer dummy but definitely not an expert either. I was booting up a old windows desktop to get it ready for DH to use at his work. About 5 minutes into it the computer froze and I got the blue screen of death. Now I'm reminded that my computer kept doing that and that's why we bought me a MacBook over 5 years ago.

My question is what are my choices here?

Recycle it? Then to wipe it clean should I just remove the hard drive and smash it? ?

Or sell it? Is it worth the effort of wiping all my personal information from the desktop? How much can I realistically get for a old Dell XP

Try to fix it? I'm no guru and we both use our laptops way more. We have other old desktops that DH can use at work.

Any suggestions?
