i do know people who have brought their LOs to work with them & made their full current pay ($500-$1,000/wk), but these were people who were established with the family prior to having their own LO. i'm sure people have started out a new job w/ LO and made as much, but it may be harder to find.

@mrs. bird: my brain is getting creative about child care soutions is all. I have nanny'd and tons of babysitting experience but it has been a looong time since then. I also have a lot of daycare experience but wouldnt use any of them as references sadly. At this point I have more experience in insurance!!

Id be looking to nanny a family with my DD with me. I wonder if this would at all be lucrative?

this is what i plan to once we have a LO. right now i'm a nanny & LOVE my job=) i have a great bond with all of the families i've worked with (all but 1 was at my wedding!) and each has contacted me at some point after i've left to ask me to return, so i feel like they'd be open to making the situation work.

i think if you treat it as a nannyshare where you are the other parent as well as the caregiver, it can really work out for everyone. the LOs have the social benefit of having other LOs around and you have the benefits of not paying for childcare and making some $$.

as far as the $$, i would look at how much people in nannyshares in your area make- if a caregiver is getting $300/wk from each family ($600 total) to take car of 2 LOs, i'd ask for the other family to pay you $300. just make sure you have a solid nanny agreement in place so everyone is on the same page as far as expectations & look for families that share similar parenting views.

My BIL/SIL did this but their kids were toddler/pre-school aged at the time.

I would consider it but I'm betting my husband would veto it. I would only do it if it cost less than my daycare costs. I'd pay maybe $500/month?

So, obviously today I'm just being a little weepy at the aspect of DD going to daycare in mid-July but has anyone done co-nannying? Where your child care provider also brings their child along? Would you employ a person with this situation and what would you pay them?
