@mrswin: I'm sorry u guys have to use ivf. Have u been successful with it?
Yeah this was our first month kinda trying, I did use opk, I used cheapies and a cb digital and got my positive, clear smiley face bang on when the app I'm using (my cycles) predicted I would ovulate. So we dtd eod leading up to o day and the day I got my smiley positive. I find out tomorrow if I'm pregnant. I don't think I am bc I have painful pimple on my face which I always get a week before AF :(

Yeah I think it's the same here too, 35+ trying for 6months and they then assist with fertility but I tnink my gyno won't wait for me to turn 35. I'm trying to be lax about it until I do reach 35 bc I don't want this ttc to consume my every thought even though it kinda already has. I'm a poas addict already lol

@Emilia80: I would assume that if your levels were re-tested once you have been off BCP for a little while they would change to some degree. My SO and I had other issues as well and ended up needing IVF but my AMH was 11.0 just before starting our IVF cycle and my AFC was 11 (I am 30 yo for comparison). An FSH of 8 is on the higher side but not awful.

I agree with @GreenThumb: that you probably want to see if you can switch to an RE who will have more knowledge about these things because your doctor should have known that testing while on BCP would not be accurate.

The other thing is maybe just try for a few months using temping or OPK's if you want. You may not have any issues and in order to get a referral to an RE here you have to have been trying for 6 months if you are over 35 yo, not sure if it is different where you are.

@GreenThumb: yeah I'm starting to realise that these doctors have no clue and should start consulting with an re! I will. Just bc we aren't really trying trying just yet I thought maybe I should wait until I am before I start seeing one?

@LindsayInNY: oh ok, that makes sense. Purely based on my age. I'll be 35 soon and basically wana know how much time I have left bc all I can think of is my biological clock ticking. My aunty (mums sister) went through infertility. She was not able to ever have kids, even via Ivf. so I guess I just want to be on top of it. We are t ready ready yet to have kids hopefully in another year but we have both decided to come off bcp and just ntnp.

I think 3 months would be enough time for you to get a more clear picture but you can always ask an RE.

@Emilia80: Just a suggestion, but I wonder if you might consider another doctor, possibly a reproductive endocrinologist (RE), who is more versed on this type of fertility testing. Your doctor should be aware of the possibility of inaccurate results due to you being on BCPs and how long you need to be off BCPs to get an accurate result. I wouldn't want to continue to waste time/money if my doctor wasn't giving me good advice.

@Emilia80: There wasn't a reason to test before that. I was TTC and only tested after the year mark. Any specific reason why you're so focused on testing?

@mrswin: thank u sooooo much for your reply. So I had amh and afc tests while on bcp. My amh came back at 6.8pmol/l and afc with 13! So does this mean if I test again while off bcp my numbers should be higher? I'm 34 going to be 35 so a bit worried at these numbers.
I came off bcp mid December 2014. I had my normal period that month and then again another period in January, so my cycles are already back to normal. However, my gyno already did my cd2 fsh which was 8! Do u think it was too early to test fsh on my first cycle off bcp!? Should I retest as I feel this is high? Also how long should I wait to retest amh and afc since stopping bcp? My gyno already did another test for amh but I haven't paid it yet ( they give u 6 weeks here to lay before they test it) I'm thinking of holding off bc realistically I have only been off bcp few weeks before he took my blood for it.

@Emilia80: From everything the RE has explained to me you need to be off BCP to have any of these tests done. When you are on BCP it supresses your body's own hormones and since you are not ovulating a AFC would not be accurate.

I was on BCP prior to starting my IVF cycle and they want you to have a bleed before doing CD3 testing

I would think BCP would skew accuracy of any results? Mine was tested after going off BCP and both were normal.

So, what are your thoughts ladies, does bcp really affect man levels?? What about fsh and afc? I had my amh and afc while on bcp. Now I am waiting to retest. How long should I wait? What are your thoughts about these results while on bcp?
