We had a bit of transition time, but it all fell into place after about a week. My approach was to be as busy as possible until naptime. We started out with naps being at noon. We avoided strollers and cars if possible, but invited lots of people over for play dates, played in the pool/water table outside, etc. lunch at 11:30 then straight to bed. Gradually she started taking longer naps (2-3 hours) and now goes down at 1-1:30.

it took DS a full week to transition to one nap, and that was with a very strict schedule. Since you're moving, you might go back to two naps and then try the transition again once you get into your new place.

My thought is to just keep at it, and he'll adjust soon. DD switched to one nap when she turned one b/c that's how her daycare does it. The first week or two it was a little rough b/c she didn't nap for very long, and then was super cranky before bedtime. Eventually she settled into the schedule really well though. Of course, my daughter was never the best napper, so she might not be the best model for what you're dealing with...

Honestly we only do 1 nap because that is what it is at daycare.

During the transition period, i moved up her bedtime from 7-7:30 to 6:30pm. It took about 2 weeks and her bedtime moved back to 7pm. I know that during the transition period, they won't sleep for that long, so don't expect him to nap too well during that time. You may have to figure it out through trial and error what works.

LO is 15 months and right now she will wake up at 6:30am, nap anywhere between 11:30-12pm (2 hours), and then go to bed by 7pm.

B takes a 1 hour nap at daycare but about a 2 - 3 hour nap on the weekends. I try to keep up B until lunch and then put him in his crib right after lunch. Sometimes he wakes up early, if so, I leave him for 10 minutes to see if he will fall asleep again, he usually does. The hard part is getting him super tired before his nap. He then goes to bed around 7 pm.

Thats hard! For us we just always followed her cues. One day she just wouldnt nap until 1130 so we took that as a sign that it was time to switch over. I think just let your LO lead the way, i know for lots it is a long transition.

Does he seem super tired later in the day when he has only had one 1-1.5 hour nap? Is he cranky before bedtime?

T is 14 months and for a month has been showing signs of wanting to drop his afternoon nap. At daycare he'd catnap in the morning and then always took a long nap from 1-3. At home he always had 2 good naps - up for the day at 6 and naps at 9 and 2. He's been out of daycare a few weeks and home with me and simply does not fall asleep for his p.m. nap. He'll stay awake for 45 mins to an hour and if he does fall asleep will only sleep 30-40 mins and will wake up crying. Sometimes he wouldn't nap for a whole hour so I'd take him for a quick cat nap stroller ride. His morning nap was still pretty solid though.

This week I've been trying 1 nap most days. One day he had 2 naps because he did fall asleep in the stroller in the morning (oops). But on one nap he is barely napping as long as his morning nap used to be. Today up for the day at 6:30 - he was definitely tired by 11:30. We started nap routine, etc. But then he whined and fussed for 15 mins before falling asleep at 12:15. And he only slept til 1:35. His morning nap used to be an hour and 30 mins! He is sleeping a little longer at night, but I think at this age, he really should be sleeping longer for his one nap. Bed time is 7:30 or 8. I can't put him down earlier because he will just wake up earlier (Weissbluth was wrong about that one for us).

Final note: we are not at home. We are at my mother in laws. We are in the process of a cross-country move and on vacation here for another week. But his night sleep has been great.

Thoughts? Should I keep trying 1 nap? Is my timing bad? Does it just take longer to catching on to sleeping longer for one nap? Thank you!
