LO is 8 months tomorrow, he eats 3 meals a day & roughly 25oz of milk.

We're doing breakfast at 8:30, which is cereal, oatmeal or yogurt. Lunch at 12 which is a fruit container of baby food or a strawberry in the mesh feeder. Dinner is a vegetable container of baby food.

He gets a 6oz bottle as soon as he wakes up, and a 6oz bottle before bed. I typically offer him a bottle 3 more times throughout the day..usually around 9, 12:30/1 and 2:30/3:30. How much he takes is different every day but he really doesn't drink that much. I think he's trying to get rid of a bottle all together, but I keep offering it.

Our schedule is basically @Smurfette:'s.

My LO is 8 months, and we're just doing two meals a day. He is breastfed on demand, so I have no idea how many ounces he's getting. Some days he eats a lot of solids and other days not much of anything, so I have a feeling his milk intake is variable.

At 8 months, we were doing 2 meals of solids and 4 bottles of milk. Solids were more for "play" and milk was his main source of nutrition. Solids were just to top him off.

It wasn't until 9 months we did 3 meals, and by 10 months, he dropped the # of oz of milk he took and ate significantly more solids.

@illumina: yep j is doing the opposite, throwing a fit at daycare when he runs out of food! our dr was okay with it but it's slowed a lot. They say food before 1 is just for fun and to not drop bottles but I figure he was getting 30+ oz so he has room to drop some, idk

@jetsa: ahh ok, that's interesting. S still prefers milk over solids. Sometimes she'll let us know she's done with her solid meal by refusing the spoon and trying to grab at the bottle. That's still a far gain right? S only gained 10oz from 7-8 months.

@illumina: J has started refusing bottles this week at daycare, granted we were at 15 oz there and 3-4 nursing sessions so I don't think he needed all of it but he's preferring food to milk when I'm not around. We're on 2 meals currently but due to this change have gone to 3 this week. J's weight has slowed as well but I think that's normal, he's only gained 3ish pounds in 3 months but he's grown taller

At 7 months, we're the same. 2 meals and about 24 oz of formula. There's no way I could add a 3rd meal right now.

I don't think we consistently did 3 meals until DD turned one. Some days we did, but many days we didn't, and that was fine. Our pedi also told us not to cut back on milk/formula until age one.

@Adira: @Smurfette: thanks both! It looks like we're on track with the formula, so we'll wait until she's eating more before adding the 3rd meal.

We're closing in on 8 months and still only do one "meal", which is generally more like a couple small spoonfuls. I have no idea how we will get to 3 meals by 1 year. I'm not too worried though. She's still growing like a champ so I assume milk is all she really needs right now anyway.

At 8 months, I think we were only consistently doing 1 meal a day! We essentially added one meal each month so that by 12 months, he was on 3 meals. But they are still supposed to get 2-3 cups of milk a day (16-24 oz), so I would keep up with the formula as is and just slowly add in more meals. As they get bigger, they'll get hungrier and want to eat more.

@Foodnerd81: I'm glad someone else's LO is on 2 meals--my Mum friends IRL look at me as if I'm trying to starve my kiddo! It wouldn't really bother me, only I did her monthly weigh in at the weekend and her gain has slowed down about 50% from the month before so I'm reluctant to reduce the formula.

I'm wondering the same thing. C is 9.5 months and we do two solid meals a day and nurse four times, usually. (Though I'll do it on demand too).

I know there is no hard and fast rule, but just wondering what others are doing/did.

LO is FF and although we feed on demand she has roughly 24oz during the day; 8oz between waking and first nap, 8oz between first and second nap and 8oz between second nap and bedtime. We also do 2 solid meals; oatmeal or cereal for breakfast and mostly purees at lunchtime.

I feel as though most babies her age are on 3 meals per day, though days when we've offered dinner, she'll skip the majority of that last bottle. I don't know where I've got this from, but I feel as though 24oz is about right for this age? So if this is correct, do I continue to skip dinner until she's older and can eat more and still have the same total oz of formula?

I'm just confused because I've read that by around 12mths babies should be on solids during the day with milk first thing in the morning and at bedtime only...and not sure how we will move towards this.

Is this one of those things that just happens and I'm worrying over nothing??
