My LO is almost 7.5 months old and until the past few weeks his schedule was 90/30 minutes awake/asleep (in the first month or two it was more like 45-60/30). Kind of a pain, but we just rolled with it and followed his lead. Now half the time his naps are 45-60 minutes, with the occasional 60+, and the rest of the time they're still 30 minutes but I've mostly stretched out his awake time to 2 hours.

@edelweiss: No worries! I feel the same way every time I read a *my LO STTN* thread . . . I super happy for the other mamas, but it makes me feel like I am doing something wrong (even though that's not the case, but I feel that way regardless).

My LO only naps for 30 min when I put her down and an hour when I hold her. Her awake time is an hour and half. She's 12 weeks old. I have no idea how long babies are suppose to nap!

@scg00387: okay, sounds like this is just how it is for my LO and some others! i appreciate your response because at the very least, i'm going to stop the constant self-questioning about this napping pattern and just accept it. motherhood is a minefield for self-doubt.

@edelweiss: I'd love an hour nap! My LO hasn't napped longer than forty mins in his crib since he was a newborn - q
16 weeks now. It's normal. Some babies are better sleepers.

@T-Mom: thanks so much for your response. yeah, i'm not sure i'm up to CIO for naps because i don't think i could do it multiple times a day! and i'm totally with you on being a little relieved that daycare will have to deal with it in a month! i'll just let them know to expect it.

My DD was a chronic 45 min napper until she dropped to one nap at around 15 months. My cousin sleep trained her kids Babywise/CIO style to teach the LO to sleep a full 1.5 hr cycle, but it wasn't for me (we did night train CIO, but not for naps). I always felt that she needed longer naps, but she slept so well at night so we just lived with it. Once she started day care, I wasn't as stressed about it since they were the ones dealing with it (and no one ever complained). 1 hr naps would have been a win in my book!

@hilsy85: thanks hilsy! i had a feeling it might have to do with the end of his sleep cycle. once in a blue moon he's fallen back asleep, but lately he keeps crying/fussing, eyes WIDE open, etc. sigh, hope he grows out of it soon!

@ladyfingers: i know it isn't fun company to be in, but i am somewhat comforted by the fact that my LO isn't the only one experiencing this. i am now obsessively tracking his naps' start and end times on babyconnect to see how much sleep he's getting every day. for his next awake time after a feeding, my plan was to keep him up a little longer to see if would nap for longer than an hour, but i didn't have the heart to after he started yawning (which also generally precedes fussiness) and i heard that doesn't work anyway (i think weissbluth says this?). anyway, let me know if you discover any tips/tricks for getting past it!

and yes, win on the 10 minutes!

@MsLipGloss: i know i shouldn't be happy about this, but as i mentioned to ladyfingers, it is incredibly comforting to me that i'm not the only one with a fussy sleeper. i was so upset for about a month thinking that i was doing something "wrong", reading about so many other people with babies who fell asleep in a second! for my own sanity needed to just say that he isn't a great sleeper.

@ladyfingers: I didn't know that anything over 10 minutes counted! That's super helpful to know!

My LO is a terrible sleep all around, but (for me) if I get 45 mintues out of her (usually while holding her), I consider it a win! For my nanny and/or for DH, she will sleep in her RnP or in the swing (very very rarely will she do it for me).

We deal with this too. Lo's naps are mostly 30 minutes to an hour. It's depressing but I read anything over 10 minutes counts so I just pick him up and start another cycle of awake time. I am paranoid he's not getting enough to eat during his last feeding so he's waking up hungry. I don't know, baby sleep is confusing. Anyway, commenting to bump and subscribe!

Baby sleep cycled are 45min-1 hour long, so it sounds like he waking up at the end of a cycle and can't put himself back to sleep yet. Its super common and were dealing with the same thing! Is he fussy when he wakes up? I found that if L woke up fussy/crying after a short nap, I could sometimes rock him back to sleep. But if he woke up happy, I would either go get him or let him stay in his crib for another 15 min or so (not that he ever fell asleep again!). No real advice on how to combat it...I think babies either grow out of it or ppl sleep train to help the baby learn to self soothe and fall back asleep. Hang in there, baby sleep can be so frustrating!

sorry this is a little long, but i would appreciate any advice/insight people have!

my 8-week old is not a great sleeper (i've come to accept this after weeks of beating myself up because i tried so many things to get him to fall and stay asleep peacefully without any success). i'm going back to work in a month, so i've been trying to record his sleep patterns more closely.

i noticed that he does the following with naps:
1. wake up for a feeding

2. after about 40 minutes of awake time, starts to yawn and stare off into space, so i put him down for a nap

3. about 1 hour into the nap, he wakes up. this is usually where the hardest part of my day is, because i used to pull out my hair struggling to soothe him and fall back asleep, and the fussing can go on for an hour. i started giving up a couple of days ago and just picked him up for awake time.

4. he's not rooting or hungry (in the past when i've fed him it's not a full nursing session and throws off the rest of the day). after tummy time and whatnot, i pop him in the carrier and give him a pacifier when he gets fussy. an hour after waking up, he starts falling asleep again and i put him in the crib and he sleeps for at least an hour.

he usually wakes himself up after another hour, but if he doesn't, i wake him up and we do a feeding.

did/does anyone's LO do this? i'm wondering if i should i be keeping him up longer after the first feeding? when he wakes up after an hour, should i tough it out and make him stay in his crib? i'm so confused.
