If they are at all under ripe, they are incredibly weird and make your tongue tingle and are overall not so good.<br /> If they are over ripe, they are mushy and overly sweet.<br /> If they are just right, they are firm and juicy and taste kind of like... it's hard to explain. They have a slight papaya vibe, but very different. You just have to go and find a good one, which is almost impossible in the USA because they always seem to be under or over ripe in stores. Like pomegranates. I love persimmons. Although, I found out the hard way, that there are two types of persimmons. One needs to be mushy to eat and the other can be firm to eat. My parents always bought the firm one. I bought a nice firm one and yuck, it was gross. I bought the wrong kind. </p> <p>ETA: The ones shaped like a heart needs to be very squishy when you buy it. The ones I like are the ones that look like little pumpkins.
