I probably will be, even though I plan to do it in my own office.

As a funny aside: I mentioned to our office manager that I might need her to order me some curtains for my office doors (we have all glass doors, but there are similar curtains on the nursery doors so my boss can breastfeed her son) so I can pump while I work, but I wanted to just let my boss know first that I would be doing that, and the office manager was like, "Oh, she'll probably just say it's fine to use her bathroom" (our boss has her own bathroom). I was like, uh, why would I use a bathroom when I can use my own office? No thanks. So when I responded, "Yeah I just don't really want to take the extra breaks, I'd rather work while I'm doing it," and she said again, "Nah, she'll be fine with you using her bathroom." DUDE. I don't wanna pump in a bathroom!

I had to go into a room in the recruiting dept. There were guys right outside the door and I'm pretty sure they could hear the pump, too. After a while I just got over it... it won't last for very long and he'll forget about it after a while ;-)

I have my own office which is the end office so I only have someone on one side which is opposite where my desk/pump are located and I still occasionally feel self-conscious about it. I will say it does get more comfortable with time; I'm to the point now where I screen my phone calls and if it is someone in the office then I will usually answer but move the pump to the floor so it is a little quieter. I have a sign on my door that says if it is important to call me otherwise come back in 20 minutes.

I used to be self-conscious about it at my last job where I had to go to a pumping room. At my new job, I have an office and it's a lot easier to pump here. Before, I had to gather all my stuff, schlep to the pumping room, and if I passed anyone they would be like "leaving for the day?" And I would have to explain what I was doing.. awkward..

Yes(!), even though I pump in my own office and I can muffle the sound of the pump a bit (Medela Freestyle . . . I don't know that any of them would be quiet enough for me to not be a little self-conscious). I do my best to block it out and focus on the task at hand . . . it has gotten a little easier during the last month, although I still feel self-conscious, and I probably always will.

As an aside, the first time I pumped at work, a partner buzzed me in my office - I had forgotten to activate my phone DND! Doh! >.<

I know what you mean - the mother's room I pump in is right in the middle of a set of offices for senior members of management so I have to pass by pretty important people. But feeding my baby is more important than my pride and I keep telling myself BF should not be embarrassing. Maybe you can play some background music to drown out the sound of the pump?

Does anyone else get self conscious about pumping at work? They have an office set aside for me to pump but the office is right on the wall of a cube farm (where I sit) so people see me when I pump. The poor guy who sits right next to that office probably notices I go in every day around 11 and 3. The worst is when the a/c is not on and I swear people can eat my pump (Hygeia Enjoye - not that quiet!). I know this because I hear someone stapling outside. And I hear papers shuffle. So I can only imagine what they hear. Should I just ignore? =\
