I love the idea, but I think I bounce to much even when walking. I've never been able to read on a treadmill, so I doubt I could write or type. But then again, I've always been going at a faster pace. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts if you do get one.

I think it's a great idea, but I would be one of those ones that fell off the wagon!

I'm pretty lucky that even though I have a mainly office job, I do walk a bit during the day between buildings and when I'm working with the kids as opposed to doing the paperwork part of my job.

I don't think I'd be able to concentrate while walking and I think I would rather have a regular treadmill that is able to be used for running too and fit in walks/runs during they day, like while I'm on the phone. Although if most of your job is on the computer, I can see the appeal. I'd probably try to make my own with a regular treadmill that I could separate. It could probably be around the same price and more useful.

@MrBee: It should totally come equipped with a playlist for you . . . like with the Rocky *Eye of the Tiger* track.

I don't think I would want to walk that much. I would rather take an hour and work out a few times a week.

@mrbee: I guess walking at a super slow pace would be ok. Treadmill desks are so expensive though. Im not coordinated enough to walk while working. Plus Would rather work out 30 mins vigorously.
I think your legs would die after an 8 hour day of walking. People with standing desks need to take a break and sit every once in a while

@chopsuey119: I would, but standing doesn't burn nearly as many calories as walking!

@MamaMoose: The general idea is to walk one mile per hour...

As alongfarview mentioned, there's a growing body of research showing that sitting a lot is bad for your mortality (even if you run every day!). That's got me thinking it'd be good to walk a few hours every day, even if it's just 1 mph!

Anyone have any thoughts on which model of treadmill desk to buy?

I think it's a cool idea if you have the coordination to walk and work at the same time.

I wouldn't do it. I think it makes more sense to just buy a regular treadmill and fit in a 30 minute run when you can. The problem with the treadmill desks is that they top out at 4mph. So you can't use them to really get your heart rate up. It's certainly great to move as much as you can throughout the day... but to me it seems like a waste of money to buy a treadmill that I can't actually run on.

I would love one! Especially with the research that's coming out about sitting a lot is bad for us (even with exercise in there, being sedentary the rest of the day isn't a good thing). I've never been in a position to have a treadmill desk yet, but hopefully one day...

I've lost a good amount of weight by changing my diet, but now it's time to incorporate exercise into my daily life. Now that I have kids, I can't see myself exercising every day unless I find a way to weave it into my work.

So, I've been considering getting a treadmill desk. You can see some news stories on them here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DllRmd9jyc

What do you think of this treadmill desk?
