Ok people. So apparently that 2% happened and I'm pregnant, so I think that explains the backaches! But actually I need to save this thread b/c there are really good ideas on managing back pain, as I probably don't sleep the best and I do sit at my desk all day. Thank you all!

As a back surgery (herniated disc) graduate, a few things to consider:
1) Are you moving enough? I work at a desk too and my post-surgery PT told me that it's critical to get up and move at least every 20-30 minutes. "Motion is lotion" and I never forgot that (and definitely feel it when I don't move for long periods). I walk around and stretch every 20-30 minutes when I'm at work. And definitely core exercises if you can make time and stretch in the mornings because post-sleep we're all cramped up.
2) Definitely check your bed. I had to replace my mattress because it wasn't supporting me well and was adding to the pain.
3) A chiro can definitely help but also be careful because if the pain is muscular, chiropractors tend to focus more on bones and shifting and adjusting bones might actually make the pain worse (that's actually what took my back pain from pain to an aggravated disc). I would recommend starting with a physical therapist rather than a chiro to learn some good moves for back pain.

Good luck!

I always feel better if I’m getting exercise and stretching. And a good bed is worth the money!

I would absolutely recommend core strengthening exercise such as Pilates or yoga. A lot of back pain can be caused weak abs and bad posture. In my personal experience, the less i exercise the more lower back pain I have.

@psw27: I do sit at my desk working pretty much all day. I totally forgot about a chiropractor! Need to look into what insurance covers!

@KT326: Oh wow. I mean, was the back pain REALLY bad? It's not so bad that I take anything for.. So maybe not PAIN pain, but bad aches.

I would also suggest a chiropractor. I had a lot of back pain after my first was born and suffered for almost 18 months. A few months of seeing a chiropractor fixed it!

Or if it is your lower back, could it be a bladder or kidney infection? How long has it been going on? In my early 20's I thought I just hurt my back moving boxes (worked in retail). Turns out I had a massive kidney infection that almost turned septic. I had no signs of a bladder infection or anything! The ibuprofen I was taking masked the fever I had.

Maybe see a chiropractor? Maybe something is just out of alignment. People have a lot of opinions on chiro, but for me, I've had a lot of success and my back feels a lot better! It was my office chair and desk set up that was killing me - not sure if that is an issue for you!

Anyone experiencing this? Am I just getting old?

I technically get pretty bad back pain when I'm PMSing, but I've BEEN feeling the pain for a while now and still no period (I have no idea when period is due, 98% sure I'm not pregnant).

My sleeping arrangement hasn't changed; could it be that? Could it be I just have back pain from ovulation, now PMS?? It just feels never ending!

I feel like an old lady and have no energy to do anything b/c of it. Any good remedies?
