I second/third the idea that it could be related to a food allergy or intolerance. If you haven't already, you could try a food journal and see if it is better or worse when he eats certain things.

@wonderstruck: I think his acidic teething diarrhea probably does play into it! When my older one had a really bad rash that wouldn't go away, a mom friend suggested the coconut oil. It cleared it up within 24 hours! I think the baking soda also helps neutralize the ph balance? Just a guess. Whenever my younger has a bad rash (which is frequent) I always refer back to washcloth with baking soda, coconut oil the desitin. Works like a charm for me!

My go to is equal parts lotrimin and zinc oxide with maalox to thin it out. Cleared up anything - yeast or not within 2 days.

I hope you find an answer. N's nearly constant diaper rash was directly related to his celiac disease flare ups.

does he eat a lot of fruit? Any type of melon always leads to a rash for my DS.
when it's bad, I use Potato starch (bob's red mill) to dry the area up and then aquaphor to protect. it's super important after baths or whenever they are wet down there to dry any moisture up before applying aquaphor or diaper cream.
When it's really flared up I use the Potato starch alone until it's a little better.

@wonderstruck: my pediatrician had me mix maalox, aquaphor and nystatin together and make a cream for my daughters persistent rash. It worked like a charm!

It was 1-2tbs maalox, 1 tub aquaphor and 1 tube nystatin

What body wash do you typically use? My daughter has super sensitive skin and Ava Anderson wash has really helped her

@youboots: I'm not. I tried going back to stage one type foods to rule out a dietary cause, but so far it hasn't changed anything.

He has such sensitive skin, it's a big adjustment compared to his older brother! He always seems to have some sort of skin issue going on. I'm really hoping he outgrows it in his toddler years!

My LO had a constant diaper rash for 2-3 months and I used all kinds of Aquafor, Destin, Butt Paste, etc. Did oatmeal baths, kept her out of diapers if possible, etc and nothing worked.

I switched to 7th generation Free and Clear diapers and within two days the rash disappeared and never came back. We used pampers swadlers before then and had no problem. I guess it was some chemical in the diaper?

My daughter had a bad diaper rash for a couple weeks when she was younger. What ended up helping was giving her probiotics and using lotrimin + extra strength desitin (purple one). The probiotic was what helped the most though since her rash was bc of acidic poop.

Yeast was going to be my suggestion as a possibility too.

If not, we use Bag Balm and it works so fast! But if you have a chronic issue it sounds like there is something else going on. Maybe talk to the pediatrician again?

My 11 month old has had a diaper rash for 2-3 months straight. It's not severe although it occasionally flares up before going back down to a mild level, and it generally doesn't seem to bother him, but it's driving me CRAZY! It's only around his privates, not his butt, and I feel like I've tried everything. Desitin, Triple Paste, Aquaphor, Butt Paste, Nystatin, antifungal cream, hydrocortisone cream, putting on nothing but keeping the area very clean and dry, tons of naked time, none of of it has helped. I've done all of these things and combos of them for over a week straight and occasionally it will seem to be almost better, and then go right back to how it typically is.

What would you do? Is there something you can think of that I haven't tried? None of the pediatrician's advice is working and I'm getting pretty desperate.

ETA: I've also changed the kind of diapers and wipes and laundry detergent and body wash that we use, no difference.
