I don't remember this but I do remember that nothing in the first year seems to last more than 2-3 weeks at most. Good or bad. Everything is a phase.

@wrkbrk: I keep feeling LO's gums, she bites down on my finger, but there isn't anything poking up yet. For sure those lil teeth are pushing up, I'm sure they will be here any day now.

@wrkbrk: I hope he is feeling better! It definitely sounds like teething to me, poor thing.

My LO is being rather whiney too the last few days - her cheeks have turned red and she is a drooly finger chomper. I couldn't settle her at all last night til about 11.30pm, she was just being a little sooky bum.

@wrkbrk: No...rectal is most accurate actually! I always use the forehead one as a quick gauge without any discomfort. How long has he been whining? I'd just keep an eye on it and see if it starts waking him at night. If he hasn't had a cold or a runny nose, it might just be his teeth moving around. LO1 was such a late teether, but you could tell they were moving on him and causing him pain all the time!

I hate that the same symptoms for teeth are the same symptoms my LO has for his ear infections. Do you have a forehead thermometer? Even if it's a slight fever, I'd take him.

@2PeasinaPod: Not that we can see. The ped said she didnt feel or see anything last week. :/ Before that we were SURE it must be teeth because: (1) red cheeks; (2) whining; (3) hands constantly in mouth; (4) drooling; (5) this is totally new for him!!!

@2PeasinaPod: Not favoring one side that I can tell. His nose is not running but he does randomly start crying/whining after brief periods of silence. He was at the ped for his 4 month visit last week and she looked in his ears but maybe something has developed since then?!

@wrkbrk: Is he favoring one side or randomly crying out? That was the only way I had an inkling that LO had one! His fists are constantly in his mouth.

Does he have a runny nose? If not, then I'm with the others that it may just be a new discovery!

Yes! It was more of a low pitched growl for us, and she was a little older at 5.5 months. I thought I was going to go insane. I posted about it here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/diddoes-your-infant-growl
It did get better after a couple of weeks. She still makes the sound at 7 months, but it's not constant.

You're sure it's not an ear infection? LO2 is the most good natured baby I know. I had no idea he had an ear infection because he didn't have a fever, didn't pull at his ear, and was generally happy. He yelled out once which made me take him just in case and it was raging...

I think my son went through this a little bit - he was just discovering that he could make noise, so he made noise all.the.time. The whine turned into random screeches when he discovered that.

Sorry, not much help, but I at least don't think there's anything wrong!

Our normally VERY good natured, calm baby has hit some kind of phase (please dear god) where he whines almost constantly. I mean, all the time he is not asleep or eating, he makes a loud whining sound. You can only distract him momentarily with toys, walks, etc., then it's back to the noise.

He is not hungry, not wet, and nothing is making him uncomfortable that I can tell. Is this because of a "wonder week" or something? Pre-teething? Growth spurt? He smiles through the whining but he won't stop the extremely grating sound!!!

HALP! DW is staying home with him right now and the last week has been pretty miserable. He is 18 weeks.
