I would stop the cereal at least until he's not constipated, but even consider stopping it all together.

Sweet potato, prunes, and pears helped my LO. And both times she was really constipated a warm bath, filled to her nipples seemed to make her go. It was messy (bath poops are never fun!) but I was just so happy to see poop I didn't care! Good luck!

We had this issue, too. For a while we did pureed prunes with breakfast most mornings, and peas/blueberries/pears as often as possible. I mostly avoid bananas and apples for him. We also tried prune concentrate mixed with water (I found it at Kroger), but I'm not sure it was more helpful than just regular water (which he chugs): http://www.amazon.com/Wellements-Baby-Prune-Concentrate-Prebiotics/dp/B008O5OI38

I had this issue too. I have to give DD prunes everyday. I second PP's comments about lots of P foods and water and go easy on bananas, apples and rice cereal.

We used to have to mix prune juice in with one of M's bottles when she got really constipated. We had to use a glycerine suppository a few times too. No fun but at least then it's over quickly! Poor kid

I had this exact same problem when DD2 started solids. I did a bunch of p foods, water, even diluted prune juice, bicycles, belly massaging rtc. The magic combo for us was steel cut oatmeal with flaxseed and plain Greek yogurt. And prune purée. Guaranteed poop within the hour.

In general I avoid giving her carbs/grains. Very minimal.

The iron and general bulk building qualities in the rice cereal is constipating so we switched to oatmeal cereal and mixed it up with prunes and yogurt whenever we gave it to him. We also fed lots of sweet potato BC it's good for constipation and backed off bananas. It just takes them time to learn to digest and overnight one day it gets better. We got the OK to use the Pedi-Lax suppository when it got bad and used it like twice and it works really fast.

Don't worry it happens! My LO is 18 months and all I have to do is give him a bit too much banana (he could eat them forever) and he is constipated. Definitely try all the P fruits that JHD mentioned, my LO won't eat prunes but we find peach purée works well

Also I think this is pretty common and you are definitely not a bad mom! It's hard to get the right balance when they first start solids.

Try foods like pears, peaches, prunes to help with constipation. The rice cereal can be very constipating and so can banana & apple. My LO had to have a little prune/apple juice for a few months to help with it. You can also find a prune concentrate at walgreens or cvs that has prebiotics that we found helpful.

My baby boy is 7 months old. We started solids in earnest a few weeks ago. Maybe I went overboard, but he loves to eat and we were trying different purees, homemade baby foods, rice cereal and a few handheld foods like blueberry and avocado. then he didnt have a poop for 6 days and yesterday was in a lot of pain!! Sorry for TMI but he had a series of hard poops and was crying :crying:

I feel so bad! Im going back to just breast feeding for a few days. Any foods I should avoid? Anyone else deal with this? Feeling like a bad mom and I don't want him to go through that again :meh:
