@gotkimchi: Yep, exactly. The more the food is chewed, the better it is broken down.

Additionally, the best time to put them on the toilet for a BM is right after they eat, so try to put her on after a meal.

@looch: oh really? I didn't know this. So food being well chewed helps? Sometimes she definitely scarfs down her food

DD has a long term problem with this. She's terrible about drinking enough. We go heavy on soup and fruit (oranges are the best, apples and banana make things worse). We're watering down her milk too. Hopefully soon we'll figure out what she likes to drink, but this is how it is for now.

@gotkimchi: Another thing to look for is how well your child is chewing their food, as digestion begins in the mouth....it's a contributor to my son's issues for sure.

What I was told is that constipation isn't normal and is normally related to a food you ate. Gluten, preservatives, and dairy are the main culprits. LO gets rock hard poops with the tiniest amounts of gluten or processed foods.

@Grace: thank you! I think you're right because days we limit milk it's better but if she gets more it comes back. I've been mixing her milk with water to try to up her water intake and I guess we'll just have to stick with everything!

My kid is like this too. It takes a long time. We've been using miralax, canned pears (because she'll eat them guarenteed) and watching the cheese/milk/bread (things she loves) intake. It's a delicate balance and any one more starchy food messes up the poop for a day or two. It's crazy. What would help my kid a lot is if she would drink more water, but she resists!

There's been some good advice on here recently for constipation for lo so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Lo has been having what I'd say is type 1 poop for awhile. Doesn't bother her though and didn't affect potty training. We always do daily probiotic. We've started using miralax to help and some days her poop is totally normal other days it will be a combo of type 1 and normal. I'm just wondering why this is happening and if anyone has any advice? Is it a problem that she has these weird combo poops?
