@hellobear: I just trifold them. I cannot recommend them enough; dirt cheap, no stink issues, dry crazy fast and pretty trim.

@autumnlove: @SCG00387: ohh flats.. do you just fold them into thirds & use as "inserts" or do they wrap around the baby with snappies? i have some hemp inserts i bought to use with pockets that i thought i would try to re-use with covers and thinking of buying some cotton or bamboo also!

My LO couldn't wear BG 4.0s for her first year so I just used BG Elementals/Grovias and flats and saved the 4.0s for big sister.

Her skin isn't as sensitive anymore so we use them now!

My LO had a rash from BGs. At first I started lining them with pieces of fleece (homemade wipes from old sheets), but quickly got tired of that. We only had a couple of them, so I just went to all prefolds.

Sorry, I don't have advice, but just wanted to chime in that it was the fabric that LO was sensitive to.

@tororojo: i just realized the 1st couple times i tried CD i was using some charlie banana pockets.. which didn't make her skin red/rashy but i was having fit issues with them so i stopped using them and only did the BG 4.0's going forward.. i think the charlie bananas are microfleece instead of suede so im waiting for the rash to clear up a bit more and going to try the charlie bananas again and see if its a wetness issue vs suede issue. then i'll have to figure out fit issues if that's the case :) thanks again!!

@hellobear: maybe try running a few wash cycles and rinses just in case it's a detergent issue and strip them that way? (I don't think you need to try blue dawn or bleach or anything since they're new) You could also try changing them more often since they've been soaked when you change them- if she has been in disposables where there's no moisture on her skin, it might just take some getting used to since cloth doesn't repel as much moisture ya know? I change DD's cloth diapers (all BG) more often than needed to keep her skin drier and she hasn't had a rash/redness issue since she was much younger. Again, just guessing- don't know if it will help but it's worth a try! You could also do disposables at night initially to see if that helps, not sure how long your LO sleeps at night or if that would make a difference!

@avivoca: thanks!! will have to look into those options!

@TOROROJO: i'm not 100% sure, but i did do a second rinse at the end because i was afraid of the detergent buildup issue. should i try stripping them? they seam to absorb quite well (no leaks), the covers "seam dry" when i change the diapers but the inserts inside are soaked. so bummed, i was so excited to start using them and have been getting so much slack from family re: trying to cloth diaper

:( That's a huge bummer! Just to double check, are you positive it's the microsuede and not detergent buildup from prepping them? (Unlikely if they're brand new, but that would be an easier fix than replacing diapers so thought I would ask!)

You might want to look into AppleCheeks or Rump-a-rooz. The pocket material is different than that in the BG diapers and I find that her skin stays drier that way. I also use Thirsties covers with inserts and haven't had any issues. Also, look into using cotton fitted or prefold diapers and covers too and see how her skin reacts to that. You can use hemp inserts as doublers with them and your pockets.

help!

i just started CD my baby in BG 4.0 diapers this week and..

my LO has a contact allergy  (verry red rash everywhere the diaper touches that clears up when I put my LO in disposables) to the microsuede that lines the bumgenius 4.0 pocket diapers.. was wondering if anyone else's LO have had this issue? :(

I really like the idea of using pockets (or possibly covers w/ inserts??) for ease and adjustability of absorbency and wanted to see if anyone had advice about other CD systems I should look into?

i've heard you can line with fleece but she gets red ALL over not just where the insert area would touch so i'm interested in another type of diaper..

ETA: thinking of switching to sized diapers instead of OS also so open to both types of options.

thanks in advance!!
