With my first I thought they were just braxton hicks so I just dismissed them. With my second, I was having long, sorta painful contractions for about 24 hours before my water broke. But they were never close together, the closest were 15 minutes apart. The contractions hovered between 5-7 min all night long, but they did get more intense by the morning. There was no way I could sleep. I called the dr at 7am and they said take my time, but I can come in at 9am if I want. By then, they were 3-5 min and painful. Baby was born by 4pm. My midwives suggested taking an antihistamine and sleeping. I was afraid I would take it then things would progress, so I only took half of one, which wasn't enough to really let me sleep. I should have listened to them and done whatever it took to sleep, because my labor ended up being really long.
