With my 2nd , I started having slightly painful contractions that were regular at 35 weeks. They hooked me up to the monitor and when they didn't stop after 6 hours, they admitted me. A few hours later they died down.

This happened on and off throughout my third trimester. I was expecting to go early (I was a week early for my first). Joke was on me - I made it to 40+3!

Had the same thing. My ultrasounds showed a short cervix (down to 0.8cm) and I had a ton of ctx all the time, some pretty painful. My OB put me on bedrest. My mom had preterm labor and my sister was born at 28 weeks so that concerned her as well.

I saw MFM every 2 weeks, then every week for cervical length measurements and FFN tests (all negative). I also got the steroid injections for lung development. Well, at 37 weeks my MFM basically said do what you want, so I started walking all the time, etc. Still had crazy contractions all the time. My water broke at 39 weeks and I had a fast labor, water broke about 630am, baby born 1pm.

So.... did all the monitoring and bedrest make a difference? I don't know, but my baby waited till he was full term and I'm grateful!

Thanks Ladies for sharing your stories! As if I didn't know it before, after reading your stories, it seems pregnancy/labor & delivery is just unpredictable. :)) I do know I will be prepared for my little guy to come early just in case & hoping these contractions are preparing my body for a smooth delivery.

I had lots of BH and even went to L&D around 33 weeks. Thankfully I wasn't dilating at all so they sent me home and I had BH frequently for the rest of my pregnancy and had to get induced at 41+4. I was, however dilated to 4 at the time I was induced and my labor only lasted 2 and a half hours. I definitely think the BH helped get me prepared.

I lost my whole mucus plug at 32 weeks (it was the size of the palm of my hand) and started having contractions every 10 minutes after that. Went to the Dr.; the swab tested negative for pre-term labor and I was only 1cm dilated. Contractions stopped that afternoon after bed rest and chugging a lot of water.

Baby dropped a week later and now (34 weeks) I'm having contractions every half hour or so. It could all mean the little guy won't make it to his due date or it could mean nothing and I end up being induced at 41 weeks. The last month of pregnancy is maddening!

My Braxton Hicks started at 10 weeks (not my first pregnancy so I was able to clearly recognize the feeling), and were regularly every 5 minutes or less. I was told not to worry and just get off my feet but otherwise ignore them unless there were clear signs of labor (water breaking, loss of mucous plug, *severe* pain (they were frequently mildly painful and even that was dismissed)). So I ignored my instincts and didn't go in when they got painful until it was too late to stop it. LO came at 33 weeks. I believe they could have kept her in longer though, if people had taken me seriously.

@MMcAlli: same thing happened to me. I was hospitalized twice and they were able to stop the contractions both times with meds. The third time it happened I was contracting every 2 minutes for almost 24 hours but my cervix was not changing. The meds were not working so I ended up with a c section at 37 weeks

With my first my Braxton Hicks started around 26 weeks and by 30 weeks were happening every 10 minutes or less no matter what so I went to my OB who checked my cervix (not dilated) and gave me an FFN. My FFN test was positive so I was sent to the hospital and there I was dilated to 1 and 50% effaced. I was hospitalized and given meds to stop contractions as well as steroid shots for baby's lung development. When I was discharged home, I was put on strict bed rest until 37 weeks. I delivered at 38.5 weeks.

With my second, Braxton Hicks started at 18 weeks. Cervical length checks via ultrasound at 18, 22, and 28 weeks were all normal. I had BH contractions constantly in my third trimester. My doctor (a different OB in a new town) told me to rest as much as possible and call if I had more than 6 contractions an hour. There were a few times I should have called, but never did. I had a toddler at the time and was SAHM but rested pretty much any time I could from 30-35 weeks. I declined cervix checks until 36 weeks and at that point I was 2cm dilated and either 50 or 75% effaced. At 37 weeks I was the same even though I had started having painful and frequent contractions. At 38.5 weeks I was induced b/c of concerns for baby's growth. When I was admitted I was still only 2cm!!!!

My theory is that I just have an irritable uterus and my BH contractions aren't productive. With my first, I think I got a positive FFN as a fluke (you probably know that a negative FFN is great, but a positive doesn't mean much), and was a little dilated because of the cervical check that I had earlier in the day.

I didn't last long enough for it to matter...and I had full on contractions not Braxton hicks. But I did so much research during that time and if it makes you feel any better, bed rest doesn't seem to make much of a difference as long as you are generally taking it easy. Water breaking really is the key because they won't do anything to stop labor after that happens in case of infection.

Hopefully you will have a nice long 8 or 9 weeks left! FX

I had lots of BH with my first from early on but nothing that was ever concerning to the doc. I went into labor naturally at 38+1. I'm having lots and stronger ones this time too (32 weeks now) and prepared not to make it to my due date.

I had what we think was an "irritable uterus". Starting at 30 weeks I had 50-60 contractions a day. It was scary and I stayed glued to my timer (they make a really cool contraction timer app by the way) and we just had to ride it out. My contractions didn't cause dilation and my water didnt break. I took meds if I had a certain number in an hour (6 maybe?) And I was put on modified bed rest until 36 weeks. I was at L&D 3 different times. Because my girl was breech though I was petrified all the time that I wouldn't know when real labor was starting. Finally at 38.5 weeks the contractions got really close together and a little more intense. They almost sent me home from L&D to wait it out since it was the middle of the night but I was really shaken up and they went ahead with our c-section that night.

I had a very irritable uterus and contracted every few minutes from 20 weeks with my first and 14 weeks with my second. With the first they were more careful and put me on procardia and modified bedrest at 28 weeks. Contractions continued on bed rest and when I got off it at 36 weeks, until he was born at 39w4d. Then with my second, the doctor was comfortable just saying that's what my body does and as long as my cervix wasn't changing (they did a few ultrasounds to confirm), he was comfortable with my keeping up normal activity. She was born by scheduled c-section at 39 weeks.

I did!

I had prodromal labor with DS2 (basically "real" timable contractions that aren't productive or cause dilation). Contractions 5 minutes apart for 2 entire weeks. I went to the hospital 3 times during that period. The day I had him, I started having weird waves of this anxious feeling with the contractions....I just felt really "off". When I got to the hospital, I hadn't dilated, but the contractions were every 4 minutes. After being there a few hours and fluids unable to decrease them, I dilated a tiny bit and was able to have my csection (I was scheduled for a week later). I was 38w6d at that point.

I somehow knew that entire pregnancy that he was going to come "early"/before the scheduled date. It was just a feeling.

I had contractions from about 20 weeks on, including a hospital visit at 26 weeks because they were regularly 5 minutes apart, but there were no signs of pre-term labor and I went home. I ended up going two days past my due date. But I feel like I had contractions almost constantly throughout the third trimester.

I can't really answer your question b/c I'm still pregnant at 36w2d but I was hospitalized at 33 weeks for regular Braxton Hicks contractions (2 minutes apart). They eventually got them to stop with procardia and I used that off and on until 35 weeks. I have contractions daily, sometimes very regular, sometimes not.

Up until 2 days ago the contractions weren't doing anything (I wasn't dilated). Since Tuesday I've been losing my mucus plug and spotting quite a bit so I think labor is starting. Contractions still don't hurt though so it's so hard to tell. If I had to guess, I don't think I'm going to make it to 37 weeks, but who knows really!

With my first, my water broke at 36w1d and I didn't feel a contraction until I was hooked up to pitocin so it's all very weird for me.

I had braxton hicks with both pregnancies, started really early on, by 26 weeks for sure. I was never hospitalized or anything though.

DD didn't come until 41+5 and I am currently 36+3 with #2... Braxton hicks didn't seem to be any indication of early labour for me. I do think it made my labour with DD easier though, I like to think they prepped my body or something :)

I have a "irritable" uterus so I contracted a lot. I had one very early baby, but that was because my water broke, I didn't have any contractions until a few weeks later. And then I had one baby at 40 and 3. So. It can go either way!

You aren't going to like my answer, but I was hospitalized TWICE for a combination of other things (bleeding) and pre-term labor. I was on procardia for contractions round the clock + bedrest until 37 weeks. I made it all the way to my c-section at 39 weeks.

ETA: I have an irritable uterus as well.

Back Story: I have been having Braxton hicks//contractions since 22 weeks, I am now 31 weeks. A few weeks ago I was admitted into the hospital because they were occurring every three minutes & would not stop after fluids, I was given two doses of medication to stop them which they finally did. I was also checked & swabbed for pre-term labor both shows no signs of preterm labor (thankfully). I still have several Braxton hicks daily, some days worse than others (side note:drink over a gallon of water a day so they are not due to lack of hydration) My doctor said we may start testing me every two weeks for pre-term labor but has not put me on bed rest or anything. I'm just instructed if the contractions happen so many times in a hour to lay down & if they keep on come in to L&D.
So my question is, any of you ladies experience something similar? If so when did you give birth?
I just wonder if me already experiencing all these contractions is a sign I won't make it to 40 weeks. I know every pregnancy is different, I just like to hear others stories & their outcome.
