Honestly, I walked everywhere (and still do) and we only use the car as a family on the weekends for short shopping trips. At 5 months my son still doesn't fit into the stroller well without the infant seat. </p> <p>An infant seat is also really nice to have at a restaurant so you don't have to hold the baby while eating. We have a travel system and up until LO was about 7-8 months old, we would take the car seat in and out of the car and into the stroller. Now, the car seat stays in the car and it's good for up to 35lbs. But it seems like it is nice to have the infant one anyway-- if you take a cab somewhere, and you can usually snap it into the stroller base, carry it with you with the baby in it, and as a place to nap while you are out.<br /> My sister lives in Manhattan and rarely drives, but she still got plenty of use out of the infant seat.
